Buddha's Birthday Celebration: Vegetarian Feast and Burning Karma Kabaret!

Please join us for Buddha's 2556th Birthday celebration at Zen Buddhist temple!

The Vegetarian Feast takes place at 6:30 pm (please come 15 minutes early) on Saturday, May 19 and is followed by the Burning Karma Kabaret, an evening of music and performance. On the occasion of Buddha's Birthday, Buddhists honor and celebrate the interconnectedness of all beings through promoting the peaceful and non-harming lifestyle of vegetarianism. The tickets for this fresh, gourmet, mostly vegan dinner (5-6 dishes out of 8) are $20. It includes appetizers, beverage and dessert, as well as admission to the Burning Karma Kabaret. For more information please email the temple at [masked] or call [masked].

IMPORTANT: The seats are limited and RSVP for this meetup won't guaranty your spot at the event as the attendance to the event will be on first come first serve basis. It means it can be filled at any time. However, you can reserve your seat in advance (strongly recommended) by making a payment with credit card over the phone or mailed to the temple. For more info or to pay in advance please call [masked]. Also, an effort will be made for our members to be seated together but there is no guaranty that it will be 100% possible. If you call them to pay in advance please mention that you are ChicagoVeg members so they would seat all of us who called in advance together.

DISCLAIMER: ChicagoVeg is not affiliated with the temple. We are going there simply to enjoy the Vegetarian Feast and the performance. We neither suggest nor do not suggest to participate in Buddhist spiritual/religious practices offered by the temple. We believe our members can and should make their personal choices on this matter.

Please use "Comments" area in the bottom of the event page to offer/ask rides and post any questions or comments.

Wow, this was great. I could barely move after the vegetarian feast which included a Chilean style Dal and Quinao Pilaf.. and then they brought out desserts! The performances upstairs in the hall/temple were a lovely tribute to Buddha's Birthday, even if you weren't Buddhist, with all of the beautiful lit lanterns adorning the room..

Hi - If you are driving to the event, please stop in the temple before you park to get a parking permit for the side streets. If you are taking CTA , temple is 3 blocks north of Brown Line, Paulina Stop down Lincoln Avenue. Turn right on Cornelia and the temple is right there. You can also take the 11 Lincoln bus (get off at Cornelia) or the 152 Addison (get off at Lincoln). See you there!

I'd like to reiterate that your RSVP on this event page doesn't mean that you will admitted to the event as it can be filled up at any time before the event. Please be smart and call to reserve your seat in advance with your payment over the phone.
