"Peace, Love & Wedrose" Summer Gathering

Join us for a retreat & festivities at Wedrose Acres!

Wedrose Acres is a non-profit animal sanctuary for domestic, farm & exotic animals, providing a wetland environment to protect native flora and fauna & promote prevention of cruelty to animals. This event will start at noon on Saturday and will end at noon on Sunday. You may choose to come just for one day or campout (at no charge) overnight. You will have the opportunity to visit with the animals, relax on the beautiful property, enjoy free vegan food & participate in a bunch of fun activities!

- The day will begin with your arrival at Wedrose Acres at 12:00 pm (please plan accordingly as it's about 2 hours from Chicago). Please use this discussion board for carpooling arrangements.

- Upon arrival, you should check-in and we will spend time visiting with the animals, enjoying the space and socializing. We will serve a light complimentary vegan supper at about 2:30pm. Yes, it will be free!

- After the vegan buffet we will have live music by Robinlee Garber, Zach & Lisa Gee; Craft demonstrations including hemp jewelry & Tie dye (Yes, we can help you Tie dye any item you wish!); Body painting & other fun activities of the 60s & 70s era.

- At about 7pm we will serve some complimentary vegan refreshments and snacks. You are free to bring your own food as long as it's vegan. We will have a bonfire, singalongs, and Retro movies outside on a big screen. "Retro 60s & 70s" is the theme for this event & you are welcome to dress accordingly to add to the fun but it's completely optional.

- In the morning (8 to 9am) you will be offered a complimentary light vegan breakfast. Then there will be more socializing and visiting with animals and departure. The event will end on Sunday at noon.

The event is completely FREE (including the vegan food that we will provide) as we wish to bring as many people as possible to experience the wonders, serenity & connectedness with the rescued animals at Wedrose Acres. However, we also would like to bring in donations to directly help the animals at Wedrose Acres. Please consider generously donating as you feel so led to support the sanctuary. 100% of all donations and sales at the event will go to benefit Wedrose Acres. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy your time with lovingly treated animals, socialize with like-minded people, and support Wedrose Acres at the same time.

Please feel free to invite your friends and family but keep the correct number of guests for your RSVP which is required so we can plan appropriately for food. For the same reason please mention on your RSVP if you plan to stay overnight or plan to come just for Saturday.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you at this event!

Please use Comments area in the bottom of the event page if any questions or comments. To arrange car-pooling, please use the message board thread at ChicagoVeg.org/messages/boards/thread/[masked]

I hope I changed my RSVP early enough so as to not cause an inconvenience. My baby has been teething all week and not sleeping so the 2 hour drive just wasn't going work out.

Where else in this world will you play with animals, share amazing food, dance, sing, craftwork, a big fire to sit around and look at while listening to the conversations, camp, outdoors, get woken up with the rain falling on your face because you didn't put the topper on your tent, just about anything that fancies you, with lots of people there doing the same thing?

The food was the best veg I've ever tasted, I ate till my stomach hurt and tried to eat more. Singers, interesting in their own right, and fun to watch on the stage, outdoors so huge you can get lost, and it goes without saying, wonderful people.

special kudos for the potato dish and that round pan of yummy stuff that looked like a food mag photo, and tasted (?) my stomach hurts and that's a compliment. BrendaLee's lyrics really connected, I liked everything thing about her. I had a great time and I thank you all.

I'm so sorry but my husband, son and I aren't gonna make it. My husband came down with a bad cough yesterday. :( totally bummed! Next time!

The cool thing about sleeping over is, after it winds down, it gets dark and quiet, the critters are talking critter talk, you can be out there, a part of it all. Even though I camp A LOT, I don't get to experience this exactly and it's really exciting. Maybe bringing a few drinks and snacks are a good idea for the night. I might have a little to share. I'll bring a 3k watt power inverter if anybody needs to run an ac devise off my car. Even a microwave will run off of it.

    See y'all there :))

I appologise for being ignorant. Something entirely outside the veggie community had "pushed my buttons" at exactly the right moment.

I am driving from Naperville and will just be staying on Saturday, not camping. If you would like to ride with me, send me a text[masked]-8150. I can also pick up people at the Route 59 Burlington Norther Line, but do not know the exact train schedule.

what time does the event end on saturday

    August 23, 2012

    • Vadim

After the movie, probably after 10pm. We don't have exactly set schedule. But if someone needs to leave (either to go to sleep or drive home) they can do it at anytime.

Please consider to bring folding chairs, cushions, or anything else to sit comfortably.

It's amazing how well a simple blanket works, it carries under your arm, you fold it into a long narrow piece then you can lay on it or roll up two thirds and it makes a seat with a little left over for your feet, (yoga fashion).

There is no "suggested donation". We ask everyone contribute as much as they can. All donation weather they are $20 or $2000 will go to support the farm sanctuary.

    1 · July 3, 2012

    • Vadim

We plan to place donation baskets with $5 suggested donation in about 10 areas. It doesn't mean people expected donate in all of them. I think $20 is a good amount in general. However, I would not want my opinion to make uncomfortable those who can not afford it, nor stop those who could donate more.

    • Paul R.

      Very well said Vadim.

To arrange car-pooling, please use the designated message board thread at http://ChicagoVeg.org/messages/...

Also, if you respond to anyone comment on here, please consider to send a private email via person's profile unless you prefer for everyone on RSVP list to know about it (as they will receive an email with your respond unless they specifically unsubscribed from it). Please simply be conscious about your postings. It's good to receive messages from the comment area to be in the loop about the event but, if you feel overwhelmed by the emails, there is an option on the right side above this are that allows you to disable receiving the messages.

I'll have room in my car if someone needs a ride. I am in the western suburbs and can pick up people from the train or you can leave your car near my home and we can car pool. Let me know. I have room for 2.

I would just like to have an idea of how much money to donate so I don't just end up donating $1. I am pretty broke right now...
