Dear ChicagoVeg members -

Very Happy New Year! May 2014 be an amazing year for all of you!

The New Year isn't just about noise makers and party hats at midnight, but is also a time for reflecting on the past and setting goals for the future.

We are happy to report that ChicagoVeg has organized 31 events in 2013, plus events of our satellite groups: ChicagoVeg Kids, ChicagoVeg Cooking, ChicagoVeg Outreach, and Chicago Veggie Pride.

A huge Thank You to everyone who helped us organize this year's events and specifically to everyone who served on the ChicagoVeg Leadership Team: Fatenah Issa, Sri Suria, Michael Mackaplow, Ken Mick, Megan Zawada, Andrea Zenobi, and Beata Stec.

This year we were fortunate to work with a number of extraordinary individuals and organizations to carry out our mission: to provide a community for local vegetarians/vegans and educate the public about the advantages of a plant-based diet. It was an honor and pleasure to work with all of them but we would to like to specifically recognize:

  • Mikael Nielsen, National Volunteer Coordinator at Mercy For Animals, who tirelessly educates the public about the treatment of farm animals and encourages a plant-based diet.
  • John Beske, Co-founder and Director of Chicago VeganMania, one of the nation’s premier vegan festivals to promote veganism in the mainstream.
  • Mickey Hornick, Owner and President of Chicago Diner, the famous vegetarian restaurant that was the first large business that sponsored the Chicago Veggie Pride Parade.
Also, as a new non-profit organization, we need to complete our first corporate tax return this year, which will be a significant expenditure for us. Please reply to this email if you can help.

We always welcome compassionate individuals to join us in serving our community and promoting a plant-based diet. Please email us to learn about opportunities.

Lastly, please don't forget to check for our upcoming events which are already lined up. And more events will be coming soon!

Wishing a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year to All of You!
