Chicago Vegetarian Meetup and Chicago Vegan Meetup Organizational Changes.

As the most of you probably were aware for the past half a year we discussed an idea of consolidating of our two meetups in one.

Due to your responses to the poll () we are now starting the process of merging our two Meetup groups.

Our main website ( will remain being our main Internet hub that points to our presents at,,, and

Our official name is now "ChicagoVeg - Community for Chicago area Vegetarians, Vegans, Raw Foodists, and their friends".

Our website (ians) changes to and its name "Chicago Vegetarian Meetup" changes to "ChicagoVeg - Chicago area Vegetarians, Vegans & Raw Foodists".
Chicago Vegan Meetup () will be still open during the transition period asking members to change their membership to ChicagoVeg Meetup.

CVM Executive Team (your meetup organizers: Vadim, Kurt, Laura, Mike, Irma) will be now called ChicagoVeg Team.

Here are some answers to your potential questions regarding to the change:

How the difference between Vegetarian/Vegan/Raw lifestyles will be addressed during the group meetups?

First of all, a few words about our philosophy. We do not consider Vegetarians to be better than Omnivores, Vegans be better than Vegetarians, or Raw foodists/vegans be better than Vegans. We believe that these are all personal choices which doesn't need to be judged as "bad" or "good" but have their certain consequences as any other actions. We are here to promote plant based diet as something that:
- has significant benefits for our personal health;
- benefits us from ethical and spiritual stand point by preventing or at least minimizing hurting other creatures;
- helps to resolve our environmental issues, therefore has a huge positive impact on our planet in general.
We are here to provide a community for people to support them in their choice to become Vegetarians (or Vegans or Raw Vegans as more strict forms of Vegetarianism) and provide an environment to meet and share between like-minded people. We believe that our common goals are more important than our differences. Please read our mission statement at http://www.chicagoveg...
Second, we will try our best to accommodate the diet differences choosing restaurant that have enough variety or Vegetarian, Vegan, and Raw food. During our potlucks we will encourage people to bring vegan food as acceptable for the majority, as well as will be asking to mark "V" if it's purely vegan dish or "R" if it's Raw Food dish. If a dish is not marked we would need to assume that it's a vegetarian dish or may want to check with a person who prepared it.

Do you plan to change the membership for the group?

No, we have no plans to change our membership structure. We plan to continue free for all membership. We may occasionally ask for a totally optional donation to cover our basic website expanses. These donations are totally optional and we hope we won't need them as we could find some corporate sponsors that may support us. Therefore if you may know some organization that might be interested to become our short or long time sponsor please let us know. Our membership is totally non committal, however if you are personally feel to contribute to the group (and your Karma) by helping us in organizing our events please let us know. ChicagoVeg Team that consists of the group organizers is an executive body of the group. We are simply volunteers who are passionate to promote Vegetarianism and any of your help will be certainly appreciated.

Can I invite for some of your meetings my friends who are not vegetarians?

Definitely. While we support and promote vegetarianism in all its forms, by no means we are here to condemn other choices that people may have.
Even one vegetarian/vegan/raw meal will be a contribution to their health, animals, and the planet. Therefore we will be happy if they join us.

You are changing your link fromians to it's so confusing. Why don't you keep the old URL?

We change the Meetup link so on a long run it would be less confusing and more consistent. Keep in mind that technically for the meetup it will be the same internal location ( http://vegetarian.mee... ). However, if you need to refer to us now, you need to remember only ChicagoVeg.
If you type in your web browser it will take you to our general website. If you enter it will take you directly to our Meetup website. So ChicagoVeg is all you need to remember. It is one of the main goals of the re-organization to make everyone's life easier.

How can I contact you if I have some ideas, comments, or questions?

Any of your comments or ideas are always welcome and appreciated.

Best Regards,

Vadim & ChicagoVeg Team
