ChicagoVeg Outreach Planning Meeting

Please join us for our March meeting. This meeting is for everyone who is new to the group and those who participated in our previous meetings. Before the meeting please review the activity list (link here) and you are welcome to join any group of interest.

We will be planning various events with the teams.

NOTE: This is not a dining/social event but a business meeting for those who would like to be actively involved in the organizing ChicagoVeg Outreach events and make a difference by educating public about benefits of plant-based diet.

Please be on time (5pm) as there is another event at 6:30pm: Vegan Potluck & Discussion - Fun, Food & the CVPP Planning (Meetup.com/ChicagoVeggiePride/events/[masked]).
Everyone is welcome to come just for 5pm meeting or stay for both. However,  you may want to bring some food to share for 6:30pm meeting!

Any question or comments? Car-pooling arrangements? Please use "Comments" section on the event page.

I decided to take my children had not changed my rsvp to reflect it as it was a last minute decision. My family and I showed up (pretty shy, excited, and curious) and found this group to be less then welcoming. We have been finding it hard to find people to talk to becoming vegan... and we were very excited to learn more from other experienced vegans. We left very disappointed when the group started the meeting without even extending an olive branch for us to join as we had arrived there on time and had been standing around waiting for them to set up and us to join the group. I understand it may have been disappointing to the group that I brought my family when originally it was only going to be two of us and my apologizes to how that may have made an impact to befriending us... but it was very clear we were not welcome. I will find a different more family focused vegan group and this waste of my time has not differed me or my family to try a healthier more humane lifestyle change.

I apologize also for not asking you to join in! I think it was obviously unintentional but we should have asked. I have gone to meetups for other groups before and been too shy to ask which was the right group and ended up leaving or doing my own thing so I have been where you are! It never feels good to feel excluded and I'm sorry to have put you in that position! That said... something that has helped me as I've gone to more meetups is remembering everyone is in the same awkward "is that them? Should I say hi first?" boat... if you're feeling shy or awkward about approaching people odds are good they feel the same way! I truly hope to see you at future meetings and will definitely be more cognizant of making sure everyone feels included going forward!

I really do hope this group learns to be more welcoming as being vegan is an important step to change many problems we have as a society and I would hate to think how others may come in and be deferred to make such change because of how hard it is to find other people to relate to and learn about it; from people who have had more time to adjust to such a positive change.
