The Boarding House is a new bar and restaurant brought to us by Chicago's own Alpana Singh (Master Sommelier and host of the PBS television show, Check, Please!). The Boarding House is located in a building built in 1872 shortly after the Great Chicago Fire. Chicago History Museum records revealed that the original owner of the building operated a dry goods store on the first floor and rented the upstairs to boarders. In subsequent decades, the first floor was also a cheese company, saloon, tobacconist's shop, a shot and beer pub, and even a laboratory. The upstairs continued to function as a residential space until 1988, when the building was transformed into a nightclub. A series of nightclubs came and went but turning the space into a restaurant was a first.
We hope to see you there!
