ArchiCulture: film, discussion, reception
Saturday, November 2, 6:30 pm- 11:30 pm
ArchiCulture takes a thoughtful, yet critical look at the architectural studio. The film follows a group of students at Pratt Institute as they approach and defend their theses. The film addresses, quite concisely, many of the most pertinent issues facing design education, including instructional methodologies, academic criticism and competition, and studio culture.
The screening at the SAIC Columbus Drive Auditorium will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A, at which guests will be invited to submit questions via text and Twitter to be addressed by the panel. Finally, the night will conclude with a reception in the SAIC McLean Ballroom at 112 South Michigan Avenue for socializing and a silent auction.
The film is being shown as part of the inaugural Chicago Design Education Symposium which has been organized by the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) chapter at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a regional symposium, gathering students, educators, and professionals from architecture and allied design fields for an in-depth conversation on the current state and near future of design education.
