Halloween trip to Kettle Moraine Southern Unit – Ottawa Lake Campground

This is being posted last minute, so it is not as "official" as trips usually are, but it was a lot of fun last year so we decided to do it again.  The weekend before Halloween folks at the Ottawa Lake campground in Kettle Moraine South have a Halloween party the whole weekend.  Most of the festivities happen on Saturday.  People decorate their campsites (there is a contest), dress up in costumes, carve pumpkins (also a contest), trick-or-treating for kids , dogs, and adults (around 5pm).  There are also many hiking trails around the campground.

If you would like to join us on Saturday feel free to do so. (Some of us are getting there Friday night) The main campsite will be at #382.  If you would like to stay overnight, you will need to book a campsite yourself or find someone who has room in their campsite. There is also several first come-first serve campsites available.  We will have a pot-luck type dinner on Saturday so bring something to share if you would like to participate. Dress in costume. Bring some candy or toys for trick-or-treaters (adult beverages for the older participants), halloween items we can borrow to decorate the campsite. There are pumpkins there you can buy – so bring carving/decorating items.  If you are bringing children please let me know how many and their ages…we are planning to have activities for them.

We will be discussing all this at the ale house on Oct 17th (see other meet-up).  Any new information will be updated on the comments for this page. If you sign up for this meetup you should get notified of the new information. You can also post comments to see if people have room in thier campsites, want to carpool, dinner menu discussions, etc.

Will our sites be alright if we're not there Friday night?

"Campers must occupy the site before 3 PM the day after the arrival date or the site will be forfeited" I plan on getting there early on Sat morning. Check-in is 3pm so in order to get there early I had to reserve Friday night. The sites should be ok unless no one checks in before 3pm.

My little brother will not be coming this weekend. Is everybody going Saturday?

Make sure everyone picks up some wood. It will be cold and we will want a big fire. We have potatoes, egg rolls, deserts, plates/utensils, and veggies and dip for the pot luck so far.

Sorry but my two kids are sick with strep throats so we won't be able to make it. If anyone still needs a site you can have mine. Site 381 registered under Monika Dobrzynski.

Pot luck Saturday night - people have talked about bringing David's stew, chili, cheesy baked potatoes, brownies, mac and cheese. If someone out there is not a good cook you can bring some paper plates, paper towels, bowls and plastic utensils. (please reply to this comment)

You are more than welcome to join us. Each spot can have 6 people on it. If you end up bringing your brother, Tracy said there are usually first come first serve sites available too.
