Kettle Morraine North Crossover Trip

This is an intermediate level trip due to distance

Head up after work on Friday and stay at Shelter #3. The parking lot for shelter #3 is on division road about 1 mile south of county road F.

The Fox Valley group will be staying at Shelter #6.

Saturday morning we’ll shuttle vehicles to the main Greenbush parking lot which DOES REQUIRE A PARKING STICKER.  A self-registration station is available. Then we'll wait at shelter #3 for the fox valley group to join us and hike to the Greenbush Outdoor Group camp (about 12 miles) and stay over Saturday night.  We'll take the shelter spur to the Ice Age Trail and follow the IAT to the Greenbush camp.

Along the way there will be a well and hand pump at Butler Lake where we can get water and take a short break.  Shelter 4 might be another good place for a break.  After shelter 5 there is another well and hand pump but if you have any water left continue on to the well at the Greenbush parking lot.

Leave the IAT following the signs to the Greenbush parking lot; if you hit Kettle Moraine Drive, you’ve gone too far.  At the northwest corner of the parking lot is a well; this is the water source for our area of the group camp.  From that corner of the parking lot there is a gravel road leading back to the group sites, follow the road and signs to group site 2.

Sunday we can whatever we want. There are some nice hiking trails at Greenbush.

Everyone should bring a tent.  Although we have a shelter available to us the first night, our site for Saturday night has no shelter.

Saturday night at the group camp, Randall will be hosting a taco fest. If you want to join in, the cost is $5. Please send me an email if you are interested so I can get a head count for Randall.

Randall's always good for creating some sort of gala event, so count me in for his taco fiesta.

I'd love to be counted in, but I'm not officially on the trip yet. I missed when there was an open spot.

Can you tell me what the level of difficulty this trip is? I'm very active, but I've only been on one other backpacking trip to Forest Glen in Westville. Thanks!

It's an intermediate level trip. It will take us about 6-8 hours to hike the 12 miles. If you have completed the bootcamp and have good cardio fitness, you should be able to do it.
