What is Zen Photography? It's a term I was first introduced to at a workshop with photographer Peter Cunningham. I soon found out that it was a form of photography and meditation that I've been practicing for years. Zen Photography is about taking time, slowing down, being quiet, and allowing the photograph to present itself to you, instead of frantic or indiscriminate shooting.

Our Zen Photography group is about the process, not the end result. This group is open to photographers of all skill levels and with any equipment (film is welcomed, as well as digital). This is not an educational meetup group, so classes on technique will not be offered. This is not a model/studio meetup group, so if you are looking for fashion shoots, etc., this is not the spot for you.

Meetups will be held in locations like gardens, zoos, conservatories, parks, beaches, etc. We will meet and wander quietly, limiting talking and interactions, and use the time to find a quiet space with our cameras, slow down and really take time to look at our surroundings. You may take 100 photographs, you may take 2. It is about the experience, not the files or prints.

After the official meetup, there will be a gathering for coffee and tea or a small meal so that those who wish to talk about their experience, ask questions and catch up with one another can do so. This way we can keep the photography sessions quiet and meditative, but still bond and interact as a group.

There will be a $5 fee per meetup to cover the meetup board fees. As we grow, this fee may be reduced to $1. I'm hoping to keep the costs down as much as possible.
