Come to the CT Poultry Breeders Society Spring 2014 Show!

This is a very nice poultry show and its not far away. It is at a new location and full information is not up at the website yet. But as with most shows there will be raffles, refreshments, food, many chickens to look at, and a sales area. Be sure that if you buy chickens at a show that you isolate them for at least 2 weeks before introducing them to your flocks.

More info to come!

Attending this event made me wish that my hometown of Southington ordinances allowed roosters, and that I had a lot more room in my chicken coop.

some people keep a rooster anyway, but it depends on your neighbors and if they will turn you in. The thing is that roosters need to be locked up in a dark coop from dusk to a reasonable time in the morning. roosters that are allowed to be out at night and that are not locked up in the morning start crowing very early and disturb people. It depends on the rooster, but the noise that they make during the day is much less than barking dogs and gas powered landscaping. I find that when I have numerous roosters that they call to eachother...but some dont crow hardly at all. Bantams are much more quiet, so that is a possibility. I have some great modern bantams that hardly crow and are pretty small. Im also breeding them now. Roosters are really great.

I was surprised that there were a lot more bantam chicken breeds than the large fowl chicken breeds. I didn't notice this at the Northeastern Poultry Congress Poultry Show this past January. I guess that bantams are really popular in Connecticut.
