Jack & Jill & Ditchling Beacon

In conjunction with London Explorers.

Walk length 12 miles/19km approx. Circular.

A picturesque route from the village Hassocks via Ditchling Beacon to the Clayton windmills of Jack and Jill.

Ditchling Beacon commands a place as the third highest point on the South Downs at 814ft (American designations define a mountain as 1000ft!, getting close) with panoramic views, because of its defensive position it was also the site of an early Iron Age Hill fort.

The second part of the walk takes in Lower Standean and the impressive Clayton windmills also known as  of Jack and Jill; they were both built during the early 19th Century and are Grade II listed.

Lunch & Finish:

Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk. The walk should finish at about 4.30pm and include a 30 min lunch stop and pub(probably at the end), however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).

Meeting & Transport:

Meet at outside Hassocks Rail Station for 10.30 for the walk to start at 10.45

Car: Station parking £1 on Sunday & Bank Holidays; maybe free roadside car parking close to the station (please leave enough time to park).

Train: The 0941am from London Bridge gets to Hassocks for 10.36am.
See: First Capital Direct

I would encourage you to seek other members who are driving, or take advantage of a group save on the train. See: Group Save Advice

This is the second of three walks with Chiltern & London Explorers over the Easter Weekend in the South Downs; the next one:
Monday 1st April: Bramber to Cissbury Ring.

You are free to come for each of the days walks individually or stay over the weekend (you will need to make your own arrangements for accommodation and transport).
The organizers are camping at Farmhouse Caravans & Camping; Tottington Drive, Small Dole, Henfield, West Sussex; BN5 9XZ, Contact is Mrs R Griffiths, Tel: 01273 493157.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
