Hughenden and West Wycombe

  • This location is shown only to members

Walk length 10 miles/16 km approx. Circular.

This walk explores the great sights of Hughenden Manor grounds across to West Wycombe Village and St Lawrence Church, visiting the extensive commons of Downley and Naphill, as well as combining a fair mixture of woodland and open country with fine views.

Hughenden Manor was the home of the famous Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli from 1848 until his death in 1881. He entertained Queen Victoria here in 1877, and during his time here remodeled the house and the thirteenth century church to his own taste. It is now owned by the National Trust.

West Wycombe  is a historic village which is largely owned by the National Trust, The village features many buildings of architectural value which were built between the 16th and 18th centuries The Mausoleum and Golden Ball above West Wycombe village are impressive local landmarks, visually dominating the village and local landscape for miles.

Lunch and Finish: Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk. Our walks usually finish at about 4.00pm and include a 30 min lunch stop, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).

Meeting:

Meet at 10.15am in the small park car park on Hughenden Road, close to Coates Lane (photo below) for the walk to start at 10.35am.

Car: Small Car Park on Hughenden Road (close to Coates Lane) or if this is full parking is available on Coates Lane.
