One of our members Chris Dadd is training for a Charity Walk to help build schools in Africa.

Chris intends to climb the highest mountain outside Asia at 6962m during Jan 2014 to raise money for GivingAfrica.com, building schools in Africa. you can see more on this worthwhile cause on www.facebook.com/chrisndadd

The cost of the walk £4, and any other donations you may want to make will go towards GivingAfrica.com. We are hoping for a good turnout for what we hope proves to be a fun day for a worthwhile cause coming up to Christmas.

Walk Description

Walk length 10 miles/16km approx. Circular.

A scenic walk from High Wycombe to Little Marlow and the Thames, taking in some varied Chiltern countryside from woods to nature reserves and rivers.

This walk takes in the pretty ancient common of 'The Rye'. We then trek off into the country across breath-taking views and cosy woodland towards the small village of Little Marlow. From Little Marlow we enture to the River Thames, a short walk from the ‘Kings Head’ Pub.

The walk also takes in a circuit of the Spade Oak nature reserve, a former gravel pit and now an important nature reserve with a variety of water birds.

The route back takes us across more enchanting woodland past the Daws Hill Air Station and then finally back to the Rye.

Lunch and Finish

Please bring a snackd lunch and water for the walk. The walk will finish at about 4.00pm and include a 30 min lunch stop, and pub stop, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).

Meeting: Meet at 10.15am for the walk to start at 10.30am at the Rye Lido Car Park, opposite car park notice board close to sports centre conveniences (see photo right).

Car: Free parking on Saturday at Wycombe Rye Lido Car park. The Rye, off Bassetsbury Lane,
High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire,
HP11 1QX (see map right).

If the car park gets busy, there are a number of adjacent roads that offer roadside parking (please leave enough time to park and check for any parking restrictions).

Train: The 9.36am train from London Marylebone gets to High Wycombe for 9.59am. See Chiltern Railways

More info about the location of the Car park and public transport links can be found on the Lido Sports Centre website

If you want to come by train please let the organizer know, the walk to the car park and the start point of the walk is a 20min walk and one of the organizers will need to meet you.

I would encourage you to seek out other members who are driving from London, or who can go as part of a group save on the train.

Extremely sorry and disappointed I didn't make this walk which was for such a great cause. I was in Darlington to be with my granddaughter who had been taken into hospital. Hope you all had a great day and best of luck with the climb Chris :)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
