Walk 2 - Sun Jun 1 - Henley and Hambleden

  • This location is shown only to members

Walk length 13 miles/20 km approx. Circular.

A beautiful and varied walk taking in the town of Henley-on-Thames, the village of Rememham, the water mill and weir at Mill End and the villages of Medmenham, Hambledon and Aston.

The walks starts from Henley (renowned for the Henley Royal Regatta rowing event since 1851) taking the bridge over the river to the path for Mill End and a great river walk passing the Temple Island summerhouse and fishing lodge built for Fawley Court in 1771 and the village of Rememham.

We then cross the river again at the lock and weir at Mill End (closed in 1995 and mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086) before continuing the path along the river to Medmenham.

The route from Medmenham takes us over a hill to Hambledon (valley used for a great deal of film and TV locations). The return walk takes us across the river back over the Mill End weir for a more inland walk past Aston with superb panoramic views back to Henley.

This walk is quite long and although largely flat does contain some step climbs. Will have a pack lunch mid point along the walk, and visit a pub in Henley for a longer stop at the end of the walk.

This is walk 2 which is slightly longer and will also be at a more hiker pace (moderately) than walk 1. Please only sign up for one of the walks. Both groups will get together at the end for some social drinks.

Lunch and Meeting

Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk. The walk should finish at about 5pm and include a 30 min snack lunch stop and pub stop at the end, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).

Transport and meeting:

Car: Meet from 10.15am for the walk to start at 10.30am at the Council Car Park, Greys Road, Henley, RG9 2AA, which is free on a Sunday.

Greys Road Car Park is close to the central town hall and along Market Place (see photo below). Other car parks are also close.

Hi, my apologies for not appearing. In fact I turned up about 20 minutes early but unfortunately I assumed it would be at the station car park. Eventually I realised I should be somewhere else but google sent me somewhere that wasnt a car park. By the time I worked out what to do, it would have taken me too long to get there and you would have probably left. Went home in a very bad mood.

The pace was a little slow, but the end result was the same: a good walk and a raging thirst. It was good to chat with those I had a chance to, and I look forward to catching up with the rest of you next time!

Sadly Im not moving back to the UK until July and really looking forward to starting up, these sound fantastic. Im looking for people too who may want to dog walk with me along the Ridgeway on a daily basis! Have a very active Border Collie/Setter cross!

Hi there. Does anyone have a proper full size hiking backpack they can lend me for a couple of weeks? I need two. My son is going hiking up Ben Nevis with two of his friends that are coming over from the states. He has a backpack but his friends do not (20 year olds never let 'little' things like that get in the way of their plans) If anyone could lend me theirs it would be borrowed on the clear understanding that if it was damaged at all it would be replace before return. Thanks for reading this.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
