Introduction

Hello! I'm Simon, and I'm a 9 year veteran of China business and marketing. I started my China career with a position with the Propaganda Office of the People's Govt of Beijing Municipality back in 2003. I co-founded our agency the same year.

What are your China business specialties? What things are you expert in?

I'm a specialist in China-region marketing communications, branding and brand localization, crisis communications and negotiation.

What is your Chinese name?

夏明 (Xia Ming)

What cities in the China region do you know the best?

Beijing and Hong Kong, principally. Also Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao, Nanjing, Tieling, Xiamen, and in the region, Macau and Ulaanbaatar.

How many years, cumulative, have you lived in China? (its okay to answer 'none' - the journey of a thousand li begins with a single F visa)

8 years (from 2003), right through the Beijing 2008 Olympics. I moved to NYC with my young family in 2011, to open my company's first US office.

Your favorite Chinese cuisine or dish?

My tastebuds are telling me, Mapu Doufu, Shaanxi hand-pulled noodles, good Tianjin-style baozi, good Dongbei-style jiaozi, with an honorable mention for my go-to during my first year in Beijing, Gong Bao Ji Ding with steamy mifan and Beijing's (in)famous Chuan'r.
