Regular Interpretation & Speaking CJK Practice

To CJK Experts and Native Speakers:

We practice like this (including, but not limited to):

Session 1 (7pm-8pm): Interpretation methods practice

For example, words, phrases or sentences interpretation, target language repeating, shadowing and summarization, etc.

We set three tables to practice Chinese, Japanese and Korean separately. The session is basically for intermediate & above Chinese, Japanese and Korean learners.

Session 2 (8pm-9pm): Topic-based speaking practice

Summary, speak or discuss the topic you are provided or you have prepared by your target language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean).

Also, everybody can move to any table as they want.

If you would like to practice English, please join our regular Saturday meetup generously hosted by Ajani.

Looking forward to practicing with you all!

So there is homework for the Korean table. The following is a link to Gag Concert. It's a KBS comedy show. I recommend watching Boom Entertainment at 20:08, King of Ratings at 34:04, "....." at 1:04:29, and Sistar 29 at 1:10:23. But I also suggest you watch the whole show and their many other episodes. Also skim through the accompanying Korean Wikipedia page. Try to match as many catchphrases as you can find in the Wikipedia page to the skits that I've mentioned or to all the skits in this episode. (There are English subtitles so anyone can enjoy it.) Please enjoy. :)

Will there be a beginner Chinese table? I am a new member and I want to learn Chinese but I can also help people who want to learn Korean. How does this work? Do I need to move around tables? Will there be different, separate tables? Or I can do language exchange at one table? I am a beginner Chinese learner. Can I join the event tomorrow?

In general real beginners will run into difficulties since at Chinese table Mandarin is the only language we speak and use. Having said that, we are definitely trying different approaches to help people not only learn but also get fun out of it. You are welcome to join us anyways:)

    For the Japanese table

(For new members, please be aware that we conduct our activities in Japanese. To participate in our activities you should be able to hold conversation in Japanese.)

We're going to attempt the reading activity again this week but I have added a word file and editable PDF file of the OCR'd Japanese text. So now you should have the ability to copy and paste the text into a search engine and find the reading. Again, please try to read the text in advance. It is available in the files section of this site.

    本週三是中秋節,這次我們的活動會分成兩段。第一段我們會跟大家一起做一些中文的語法題,第二階段我們會各位介紹一首非常有名的新詩 - 徐志摩的<偶然>。這是一首很短很簡單的詩,但是意境非常深長,值得大家一讀,並且慢慢體會。我們在讀過詩之後會對這首詩進行一些討論,希望大家踴躍參與:)
