Sep. 8 Skype Chinese Hour

  • September 8, 2013 · 5:00 PM

The most basic conversation form is arguably a Q&A: Where are you from? Are you ok? Do you like _______? And let's not forget the number one question: Where's the toilet?

We'll go over the form and some must-know Q&A's. Plus all the question words: what, who, when, where, why, which, and how. You'll never run out of things to say again. And yes, if you want to learn how to say 42 in Chinese, we've got it covered, too! :D

To join, download your free Skype, register and log on to Skype by 10:55 am (Paris time). Request the contact "moreopenmind"(New York) and message, "Chinese Workshop", and I will conference-call everyone at 11 am. Audio only, no webcam (to stay free). The Skype Meetup is planned for one hour. (I'm looking into Google Hangouts to see if it works better.) You may bring a recorder or your phone to record the Chinese portion of the lesson for later practice.

Skype Hour is perfect for practicing listening and speaking. And hopefully it gets the workshop well underway by the time I get to Paris this fall and do the face-to-tace Meetups. Check us out!

*Skype Hour lessons are conducted in English and Chinese (Mandarin). Each hour is a stand-alone lesson. All levels are welcome. If you are a native speaker of Chinese, this Meetup may not be for you, as the lesson is intended (and the talk time are reserved) for learners of Chinese. Thanks for your understanding. :)

I enjoyed learning using Kat's technique which I think is more pratical for conversing than the traditional textbook based technique.

Nothing absolutely necessary... But if you have a few common questions you'd like to learn to say in Chinese, please feel free to mention them. See you then!

    Thanks Kat!
Is there anything I can/should do before the workshop to prepare? (Dust off my old notes from the beginners' Chinese language course I took, for example?)

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
