MEET THE WALKER DISTRICT RANGER, CHIPPEWA NATIONAL FOREST. The Itasca Moraine Chapter is very pleased to announce that Jim Boyd, Acting Director, Walker District Ranger, Chippewa National Forest is participating in the North Country Trail hike scheduled for Saturday, September 28. There are two hikes, a 2 mile hike and a 4.2 mile hike. The hikes commence at the Chippewa National Forest Picnic Grounds 2.7 miles south of the Y on Hwy 371. Hikers are given rides back to the Picnic Grounds.
The Itasca Moraine Chapter has scheduled this hike to help celebrate the Fall Has it All, Chainsaw event in Hackensack. The Chapter will have a booth at the chainsaw event on Friday the 27th. Chapter members will have maps and other information about the North Country National Scenic Trail and details about the hike the next day. Stop by the event and say hello to the Chapter folks manning the booth.
The bugs are gone, the under story in the forest has fall colors and the trees are turning beautiful colors as well. This section of the forest is mixed, mostly hardwoods, oak, maple, basswood with a few conifers scattered along the trail. The Woodtick Fields, an ancient classic beaver dam and a waterfowl impoundment are other attractions on the hike. You can stay home, sit on your but and watch the Horned Frogs and the Mustangs or get outdoors and enjoy our beautiful woods. Which will it be?
p.s. It is not too late to join the AmeriCorps group and help build some trail in the Paul Bunyan State Forest and to hear about their great accomplishments to date. Contact [masked] to get details for joining us for a day.
