    Welcome Kathy! You don't have to buy a paddle. There are paddles for rent for $1.50 and sometimes other members bring extra. Please don't buy a cheap paddle at Wal-mart or Big 5. You eventually can Buy a decent padded paddle for $20 at Dojo
