Charles Village

Hi Guys!!!

August completely got away from me, and I'm sorry for missing our normal meetup. Thankfully, things have calmed down, and I wanted to get September on the calendar! We also have a couple new members, so hopefully they can join us.

This time, Aaron requested we move it a bit farther north. We discussed it last time we got together, and everybody was willing to try Charles Village. I'm taking suggestions on the place, so post in the comments if there's somewhere you think we should go. I'm not as familiar with that area.

Excited to catch up with you all!

More details to follow shortly,

Ginny

Aaron, once again you are more aware of Christian culture than I am:) I think I will enjoy watching the movie and I think the premise is legitimate. Although I wonder what is our role in defending God - like, does God's existence and attributes depend at all on the outcome of a human debate? I like the way Paul debated in the Areopagas (sp?) "I see that you Athenians are very religious...nor is there anything that God needs that we can provide for Him - for He made us, our lives, our breath and everything else" Acts 17:21-22 I think.

I really enjoyed last evening's discussion. Today I kept thinking about the similarities between the essence of C.S. Lewis' Island and American Beauty, believe it or not. There is always (usually? - maybe I can't be absolute on this) a vision, a dream, a Beatrice without which we are never going to reach beyond the mundane.

Jesus and the love and forgiveness and relationship with God is (could be?) the ultimate reality behind every deep longing.

Wow. I saw this this morning and felt compelled to share. We'll definitely have to make this a group activity. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=90...

From Mary, "His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. / He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart (or "scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts" or "scattered the proud in their conceit"). In other words, pride/conceit of their own knowledge (privilege) is one of the main factors for intellectuals leaving revealed religion.

Two other friends would like to come to the meetup this Thursday. Justin Garrish (he is a long term substitute with Aaron and I at Perry Hall High) and his brother Chris. Is there any way they can join us?

Of course! Bring whoever you'd like! I'll get a big enough table.

I think we can try Joe Squared on North Ave. I haven't been to this location and since it's a smallish group it might be doable if it gets noisy. At least I don't think there will be a band playing on Thursday night. If it doesn't work out we can try City Cafe next time.

So any settlement on the venue? Shall it be Joe Squared?

Hey guys. I see you changed the venue. Hope to see you all there. Any prereading to be done?

I'd be up for City Cafe or Joe Squared. I've never been to either, but food looks great at both, and the beer looks great at Joe's. Also they have this quote on their website which makes me love them:

"Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza." - Dave Barry

    Hey everyone,

I like "Janet's" suggestions, but think that The Brewer's Art might be hard place to have a meeting. It's kind of loud and quite crowded, and it'd be tough to meet and talk like we used to. I think City Cafe would be a good venue, but haven't been to the other places. What do you all think?

Looking forward to seeing you all again!

Here are some places not all exactly in Charles Village, but looked for ones that would be easy to access from 83:

    Donna's - Charles Village
    Joe Squared - Station North
    The Brewer's Art - Midtown
    City Cafe - Midtown
    Two Boots - Midtown/Bolton Hill

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
