Apparently, people really hate movies made by Christians. Hacky, beating over the head moralism, poor acting and production values, etc. Not much interest. Though I can't see how Noah could be any better (maybe the special effects).

We'll see if anyone is reading the comments afterwards. I should have gotten some contact info.

If you want to discuss the idea in the movie over coffee I'm game, I think we all get the jist of it from the trailer. I think Christians more and more are used to getting persecuted for their beliefs in certain secular circles. I converted from a longtime secular position myself, and those sorts of actions against Christians were a part of it. I'd prefer not to subject myself to a bad movie to discuss it though.

Anyway, I agree this is probably only a small part of the motivation behind the abortion drive.

What do you think Gerry, is Katie correct in assuming Jesus would condemn the inquisition were he around today? Concerning your examples of atheists behaving badly, was it the case that they killed others specifically for holding religious viewpoints? Their reasons couldnt be anymore ridiculous than killing a man for not believing in a wiman's virginity? Anyway, im willing to call the arheists actions 'murder', would you say the same about the inquisition?

Btw, let me know when your going to Noah. I don't know if I can make it but having the time opens up the option.

Article does a good job articulating my concerns regarding the new Cosmos series. (http://www.evolutionnews.org/2014/03/cosmos_with_nei083031.html)

I don't think anyone is trying to minimize what happened to Bruno. We, I believe, would all agree that it was horrific and doesn't reflect our views or any church that I am aware of that exists today. The church "behaves badly" in this manner when it looses sight of who Jesus was and what he taught. Jesus would have been the first to condemn the religious leaders any inquisition. The point that I was trying to express about the show was to ask why a show who's primary goal should be getting a new generation excited about science and scientific exploration feels it is an appropriate venue to discuss what happened during the Roman Inquisition to a man who by the show's own admission was not a scientist.

Here's an example of Atheists behaving badly (the first one is key to the "new man"; a 3 part series): http://youtu.be/EWp9p... http://youtu.be/Fce1t... http://youtu.be/nksgk... . Of course, not all Atheists and/or Agnostics can be connected together, but the YouTube series above gives one counter-example to members of the Church behaving badly. That's the thing, the membership of the Church is a sinful collection of individuals (why Christ came do save); it's how the baptized can be communally implicated in evil. When "herding cats" (Dawkins' phrase) is impossible, it's hard (impossible?) to accuse all Atheists and/or Agnostics of having (a) bad practice(s) (which I wouldn't do anyway; the example above is just an example of some in the former USSR).

Anyone up for seeing God's Not Dead in Hunt Valley this weekend followed by conversation and drinks?

    March 23

    • Katie H.

I do want to see "God's Not Dead" and I don't like going to movies by myself so I'd be game.

      March 24

  • Aaron C.

I found this video interesting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO4nCd20FDQ&feature=youtu.be). Not related to previous conversations. I'd never heard of this monument before.
