Ever read C. S. Lewis or Tolkien and envied their bond in the Inklings? Wish you could have a beer with N. T. Wright, Brian McLaren, Charles Townes, or Francis Collins? Well...this group can't promise to reach those heights of intellectualism. But we can at least enjoy great conversation, share what we're reading, what we're learning and expand our minds by association, ALL while enjoying a good beer or coffee at one of Baltimore's many great hangouts. I hope we can read each others' work, share our latest epiphanies and recommend our favorite books. If you are a Christian writer, thinker, philosopher, talker or listener, consider joining the group. Maybe a blurb about myself will convince you one way or the other, if we can be friends!
I'm a Christian. The mysteries of how God's redemption, our faith and the human experience intertwine is a constant source of conversation for me.
I like to think that I'm a film/tv "connoisseur": The greatest tv shows of the last decade were Pushing Daisies and Firefly (though my brother will argue for Breaking Bad). The film I'm most looking forward to at the moment is Star Trek Into Darkness (I am an unabashed sci-fi fan).
I'm currently reading (among other things) "'Til We Have Faces", "Confessions of St. Augustine" and "1776". I am most inspired by allegorical storytelling. It's that experience you have when someone tells you a story, and their delivery was so good, that not until the very end did you realize they have changed your mind or altered your perception of something (like Inception!). My most recent experience of this was watching Zero Dark 30.
I like coffee and beer, so coffee houses or pubs just seemed like a good meeting place :)
