Is theological discussion at your church or school boring, inauthentic, watered-down, or absent entirely? Does engagement with scripture in your community tend to look one verse with 6 discussion questions about a sermon, book, or anything besides the scripture. Do you sometimes feel like a heretic for having your own oponion, or like a pariah for enjoying a little intellectualism now and then? This group is for you!

The purpose of Cigars & Theology is to bring
together those of us who are exploring theology and spirituality to engage interesting  topics through conversation, cigars and drinks. We do this by asking one another difficult and often controversial questions and allowing the ensuing conversations to have their own way. Hopefully, the result is a refined understanding of some of our most difficult spiritual issues.

This is still Texas, and the majority of our members as well as organizers claim the Christian faith, so the majority of topics have their origins in Christianity. With that said, we are not affiliated with any church or religious organisation, and people of every faith level and background are welcome.

Authentic conversation seems to flow more easily around smoke and adult beverages, so we are leaving the sanctuary behind in favor of the pub in order to try to give licence for people to say what they think rather than what they suspect the "right answer" is. Sometimes we will have a general topic to serve as a jumping off point, sometimes we will use a chapter of scripture, and sometimes there will be no topic at all. In each case the conversation is moderated and facilitated only by the members of the group, there is no curriculum.

Whether the wine and beer are an excuse to discuss theology, or the theology is an excuse to smoke a good cigar, you are welcome here with us!

P.S.  This group is free to you, the meetups are free to attend, but Meetup does charge $150 to us the organizers. any donations to cover our fees would be much appreciated, I promise we are not getting rich through this.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
