Web Site (click here)

Please let us know your dinner plans on your RSVP so that we can either save you a seat at the "Movie Group" table or plan to meet you at the movie.  We have asked for separate checks but please bring cash to pay for your meal.

Our new group will be successful partly because members have a genuine interest in meeting fellow cinema lovers for a discussion before or after the film.  We don't always know where to look for you, especially those without a profile picture and first timers.

It’s very important to RSVP early and cancel your dinner reservations if you can’t attend.  Please be respectful of the Organizers and the Restaurants we patronize.

·  Special Screening @ Cedar Lee Theatre

THE WINDING STREAM honors the legacy of country music's most vital family, the Carters. Whether as the Original Carter Family, the Carter Sisters, or through their work with June Carter's legendary husband Johnny Cash, the impact they've made on music is indisputable. Unfortunately, until now, their story has never really been given the attention it truly deserves. Like many innovators, their contribution is heard through the artists who have come after them, while their own work has rarely enjoyed the same commercial success. This fascinating documentary follows the multi-generational family from its roots in Maces Springs, Virginia, to its continuation today through John Carter Cash and his wife as Carter Family III. In addition to new interviews with family members, the film also features rare old interviews and performances, including some with the late Johnny Cash. There are also appearances from musicians Murray Hammond of Old 97's, Sheryl Crow, and Kris Kristofferson, who drop by to pay homage to a family whose influence is immeasurable. THE WINDING STREAM is essential viewing for any music history buff. —E.F.

WALTZ FOR MONICA (Monica Z) (2013)

Country: SWEDEN, DENMARK
Run Time: 111 minutes

Lovely Monica Zetterlund, a switchboard operator in rural Hagfors, Sweden, often ditches work for four-hour bus rides to Stockholm. It’s the 50s, and Monica is a jazz singer on the verge of making it big. Leaving her daughter with her disapproving father over Christmas, Monica heads for New York to sing with jazz legend Tommy Flanagan. Shooed off the stage for being “too white” to play with the black musicians, Monica heads home in disgrace. But her career takes off at home, and she becomes addicted to the high life, partying hard and shacking up with film director Vilgot Sjöman. Her neediness alienates friends and associates, and her downward spiral makes us fear she might pull a Marilyn or a Judy. Based on the life of the chanteuse who popularized jazz sung in Swedish, WALTZ FOR MONICA was the most-seen film in Sweden in 2013. It’s a tour-de-force for stunning first-time actor and musician Edda Magnason, who performs Monica’s songs herself. (In Swedish with subtitles) —B.B.
