Cinema-Femina Pages

Cinema-Femina is an informally organized group intended to support and build an audience for female, feminine, and feminist filmmakers (broadly defined).

Cinema-Femina was begun and named by Francesca who currently organizes "The New Jersey Arthouse Film Society." It began as a group in response to the dismal statistics regarding women and minorities in the film industry. For a good cry you can check out these links (if you have newer/better ones please share):

I invite you to make Cinema-Femina what you want it to be -- how to get involved:

• Let me know if you would like to become an assistant organizer – particularly if you would like to organize a First Weekenders Group (events around current theatrical releases); or if you’re interested in starting a related reading group.

• If you have a cool idea for a meet-up, post it in the IDEAS tab above and/ “Like” the ideas you like so we can organize around them. Indicate whether you’d be willing to organize and host it if you post it. Feel free to post it to promote it if it’s related.

• If you attend a meet-up -- rate it & review it so we know what you thought.

• If you know of potential venues or sponsors suggest them and take the lead on forming relationships.

We place a priority on events where filmmakers and artists are present when possible. We’re also interested in exploring feminist film theory, experimental filmmaking, video art, & all kinds of things that are in-between. We’re interested in connections between theory + practice, and connections between people.

If you’re interested in exploring new ideas, meeting strangers, and creating conversations you feel are missing -- please join! Everyone is welcome.

Looking forward to interesting experiences, conversations, and getting to know you!
