Wadjda

The film is at 7.15 so i will be at our usual meeting spot at 6.45. See you soon
It seems from the numbers recently that I've been making bad choices... Hopefully this film which I've seen a great trailer for, will be something to interest you (feel free to send me messages of films you'd like me to organise a meetup for - this isn't a dictatorship after all!!)

See you outside Black Orange, opposite the Box Office. I'll confirm the time when Nova publish.

Meet Wadjda, a sarcastic, funny and streetwise ten-year-old girl whose unconventionally carefree demeanor not only sets her apart from most girls in her school but also frequently lands her in the headmistress’s office. When she spots a shiny green bicycle in the local shop she becomes determined to scrounge up enough money to buy it so that she can race her neighbour, a culturally unacceptable action with potential societal repercussions.

This groundbreaking first feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia and the first by a female Saudi filmmaker, Haifaa Al-Mansour’s Wadjda offers a moving, rarely seen picture of everyday life in Riyadh. With a central character so unique to the screen, Al-Mansour has crafted a subtle counterpoint to the images of females the world is accustomed to seeing, a character who holds hope for the future.
