The Great Dance (A Hunter's Story) (2000)

Presented by Jerry Allen (Sebastopol Grange).

Special Guest: Jim Sullivan.

This documentary by Craig and Damon Foster focuses on the surviving San bushmen in the central Kalahari. "The Great Dance" is characterized by stunning visuals. It is a visual poem on the San hunters, who sustain a small band of nomads in the Kalahari Desert. Not a conventional documentary, it includes highly original and semi-abstract material related to the San legends. Black-and-white footage has been combined with richly coloured images, giving the film a poetic dimension rarely seen in documentaries. Directors Craig and Damon Foster have created a sublime visual poem with this film.  Guest Jim Sullivan is an experienced tracker in Sonoma County.  He will be present to comment on the film.
