Celluloid Lovers Potluck

Do you not have any plans for the holiday or just not a big fan of the holiday in general? Well why not come join your fellow Celluloid Lovers for a good old fashion potluck. Damon and I know that within our group we have a lot of Portland transplants; Damon being one of them. With that said we would love to invite you all to gather together in our home for something a little different.

Feel free to bring any type of dish you would like. We only ask that you let us know a head of time what you are bringing so we don't end up with 10 plates of deviled eggs and nothing else. I will be cooking a few tasty dishes and there should be plenty of warmth, fun, and friendship. Everyone in the group is welcome to join us regardless if you wish to bring something or not. We will make as much room as we can for all who want to come & if you have any suggestions for any games or activities we'd be open to hearing them. Otherwise come, eat, drink, and be merry and enjoy.

Fabulous food and wine! Great people! I usually don't like parties, but this was a magnificent Christmas present from what I think of as the "real world" of friendly, real people!

Thank you all for coming. I've said before that I feel like this group is turning into an actually community and today has only cemented that feeling. Thank you not only for coming today but for making this group live up to it's name.

This is a conundrum. I can't like the first without liking the second and I can't dislike my comment either.

I just liked your comment just to keep the conundrum going.

It was good to see you. You better not go back into hiding for another 5 months.

I still don't know how to respond to all with a "Good to see you, too!"
    So here it is....
    Great conversation, food, drink.
Thanks to all -- and to Damon and Jacinda for their hospitality!

Sorry to have arrived so late and to have missed you Mary. I look forward to seeing you in person soon.

Mary isn't going anywhere. She asked for a nickname so she is now legally bound to the group.

Thank you two for the wonderful invitation. I'm really looking forward to bringing (my baby) Alan, seeing y'all again, and meeting the others to share this day. It's good to have a family of friendships.

I am --ironically,since I come from the Jewish side of the prohibition -- on Art's roommate's no pork side (which, I confess, didn't stop me from including shellfish in my cajun seafood stew). As far as I am culinarily and culturally and otherwise concerned, the more the merrier: people should bring what they want to bring, and we will partake according to our druthers. It might help, though, if we were to label our contributions.

    1 · December 24, 2013

  • Kris

Ok help me think... 9 people attending. If there are no changes we have shrimp stew, a roast chicken, a roast beast of some size, and a ham of some size I think. My cajun pork is amazing (at least fresh off the skillet that is) but I'm gauging that we maybe, might, depends on amounts, have enough meat and I should just focus on the carb loaded sides (the good and the bad) potatoes, veggies, biscuits or cornbread, fresh cranberry sauce, etc, ets. Thoughts to help center out an INFP Libra?

    December 23, 2013

    • Damon S.

Jacinda ended up not getting a ham so you are welcome to bring some pork if you are still tempted.

      December 24, 2013

    • Kris

Tempted like you would not believe! Had to use command decision and quash it tho. It's been a very difficult process...

      December 24, 2013

  • Kris

I'm all set with scalloped pots, roasted sweet pots, and roasted Brussels sprouts and radishes :-) !!!

    2 · December 24, 2013

  • mary

Personally I'm for more veggies, or non-meat, however carb loaded....

    1 · December 24, 2013

  • Carl T.

I'm still planning on attempting my once-a-year roast beast! And then maybe my spinach-cheese appetizers! Wine, red and white, goes without saying! Do you need extra stemware?

    1 · December 21, 2013

    • Damon S.

Looks like Jacinda was mistaken so yes Carl we could use more stemware.

      December 21, 2013

    • Kris

Sometimes stemware and flatware can be as confusing as differentiating between a turnip and rutabaga. (I still can't remember which is yellow and which is white.) More importantly tho, Y'all are too cute!

This sounds like a nice and welcoming kind of event and my kind of Christmas really. My son flies in at 11 am on Christmas Day so this means two more added to the group as it stands. I was thinking of an untried recipe of scalloped potatoes and/or corn maque choux of which the first time I prepared it, it was amazing and second time uncannily unmemorable, yet to have it land somewhere in between might still be worth the risk :-) I could swap out one or both and bring highly seasoned and flavorful cajun pork strips accompanied by the absolutely BEST homemade fresh and hot cranberry sauce - I might need a free burner on the stove for the sauce but understand that this may be hard to come by. Is there anything or any type of dish needed to fill any menu gaps?

Looking forward to seeing you again Kris and meeting your son.

      December 21, 2013

Thank you Damon. I feel the same. This will be nice :-) Please let me know if anything else is needed or you need any help.

I'll bring a main -- a relatively spicy cajun style shrimp stew (i.e., with potato, corn, tomato, pepper) and some paper bowls.

    December 13, 2013

      That sounds delicious :)

I was mulling over going to a movie on Christmas, something I have really enjoyed during past holidays. This is perfect. I can bring something vegetarian-friendly. I make an Asian-influenced asparagus dish or I could do a Caprese salad. Thank you so much for giving this Christmas orphan something to look forward to on the holiday.

Well darn! Another year and I am unable to master the art of being in two places at once. I didn't think my regular gang would be getting together for Christmas as the traditional hosts moved away. But someone has taken up the hosting duties so I am pulled that way. I hope to come for a movie night in the New Year. Happy Holidays!

Thank you for the invitation, you guys are simply the greatest.
However, I'll be with my Dad on Xmas in sunny South Florida,
    wishing for snow. ;-)

He seems to be doing pretty well, but I worry about him. He's an experimenter, typically with suppliments. He told me last night he's taking supplimental sulphur, and I'm a little worried for him that he might overdo it.

      December 2, 2013

    • Bob P.

But otherwise he seems to be doing pretty well. Even when he isn't I don't always find out. I think he doesn't tell me the whole story so I don't worry. Luckily I can do an in person assessment when I get home for Xmas!

      December 2, 2013

What a wonderful invitation Damon. I will be in sunny Southern California for the holidays but you and the gang of Celluloid lovers will be in my thoughts.

That's okay. We don't except anyone to drop what they are doing. I'm not a big fan of hanging out with in laws so I figured it would be a fun way to hang out with anyone who has nothing else going on. I should email you back sometime tonight or tomorrow.

      December 1, 2013

    • Jacinda S.

Sounds chilly :) Hope you have fun with the family :)

      December 2, 2013

  • Zara

How cool is this, Damon! This is kind of iffy because I'm not certain what my son's family is doing. I'll let you know what I'm bringing later...or, do you have any special requests?

    1 · December 1, 2013

    • Damon S.

You can bring whatever you'd like. It can be something traditional according to whatever traditions you may follow or just whatever you're in the mood to bring. Your son is welcomed to come as well.

      December 2, 2013

It's okay, I'm sure this won't be the last time we do this as a group. Maybe next time we won't schedule it on a major holiday.
