Double-Feature Movie Social: Halloween Edition

Let's celebrate this most haunted holiday with another bring-your-own-movie double-feature of the most horrifying horrible and terrifying terrible imaginable.

This should be a piece of cake -- I mean this is horror we're talking about, the king of bad movie genres. Everything from killer klowns to murdering midgets to ravenous refrigerators!!

Search your collections for the bloodiest, creepiest, CRAPPIEST movies in your video library. We'll put them to the vote and watch the top 2. We'll have a VCR, DVD/Blu-Ray player, and laptop for other digital media. Keep in mind this is a semi-public area so a movie with more than a few scenes with bare tits is probably out of the race -- other than that, go nuts!

Had to look this up, but I knew I saw her from somewhere. The girl who survives in Chopping Mall was the girl from Night of the Comet, which is actually a pretty decent movie. And the familiar dumb looking guy actually played one of the Deathstalkers :)

That's too bad, Emily. I hope you feel better!

Great night, great people. Thanks for attending everyone!

What's the status of the waitlist? I was curious about bringing a +1 who will be scouring his bad movie war chest for Halloween either way.

    October 26, 2013

    • Kedar H.

You're off the wait list, and looks like there's another spot available right now. So can add in your +1...

I'm going to bring "Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror", "Attack of the Crab Monsters", "Killer Klowns from Outer Space", and my obligatory copy of "Manos: The Hands of Fate". See y'all soon!

Sledgehammer would be a pretty good one to watch. I don't have it though.

    • Kedar H.

6 minutes away from the cafe on Airport Blvd is an I Luv Video -- you could see if they carry it. The first three titles I just mentioned, I've rented from there.

      October 25, 2013

There are so many movies ripe for the choosing! Last time's picks were amazing.

I'm still taken by Alien Warrior, and we didn't even see the whole thing.

It's really challenging to find crazy over-the-top horror movies that don't have major boobage...

    1 · October 24, 2013

    • Kedar H.

Do people still say "major boobage"?

      October 24, 2013

    • Sam

I say it every day actually

Looks like Grant probably won't be able to make it after all. I might be able to bring someone else in his place but... oh and what's the situation with the VCR this time? Is someone else going to bring one along? Have you guys heard of BLACK ROSES? It's hardly scary but I guess it still counts as horror. It's about a satanic metal band that tries to take over a small town, and this is my favorite scene:

I think my VCR should work...

      October 23, 2013

  • Jodin

If it didn't have so much nudity, I would bring Lair of the White Worm. Cool scene is where a young Hugh Grant slices an infected woman in two all to the chime of a pipe organ. Pure awesomeness!

    October 22, 2013

  • Valerie M.

That's a whole lot of people, is there going to be enough room in there?

    October 22, 2013

    • Kedar H.

Jodin, clearly you don't know me well enough. What you should've said is "Kedar probably put the number at 20 because he's awful at estimating room size to number of people."

      October 22, 2013

    • Jodin

      LOL .... oops

Sorry Kedar, just found out yesterday I can't make this--I have to go out of town for work. I'm hoping in can squeeze in coming out Thursday to meet some of you but we'll see. I'll be pretty occupied coming up but things should settle down for me and should have more time/be a lot more active after the new year. For another recommendation (think it's well known): Maximum Overdrive starring Emilo Estevez. I just saw it again the other day and my favorite part is when the guy gets killed by the soda vending machine, having cans spitted out at him! Enjoy yourselves and hopefully be able to come out soon.

That's too bad. But that sounds like an awesome movie, look forward to seeing you in the future.

      October 22, 2013

  • Kedar H.

Just like last time, I'm going to bring a new set of several RiffTrax shorts for you guys to vote on during intermission.

    October 22, 2013

  • Jodin

Me and Brad both got in. Awesome! See? I wasn't worried.

    October 22, 2013

    • Kedar H.

Awesome! Looking forward to seeing you guys. Last time was really great. See what kind of horror movies you guys have.

      October 22, 2013

  • Kedar H.

Jodin, Brad! Late to the party... Wish you guys weren't on the wait list, but it's a pretty small room... You guys have movies to bring?

    October 21, 2013

    • Kedar H.

That would be cool. I've been busy lately so I haven't really gone out to any meetup events for a while...

      October 21, 2013

    • Brad

Hey Kedar, it's all good. Glad you are having such strong turnout for these. I'll check my collection to see if anything fits the bill. In this case though (horror/shlock/z-grade) I don't think I can compete with you guys!

      October 22, 2013

  • Emily

Are we supposed to dress up in a costume?

    1 · October 21, 2013

    • Kedar H.

Nah. Now that you mention it, I might wear a pirate hat or something. If you want to show off your Halloween costume, that would be cool.

      October 21, 2013

  • Marcus J.

Yeah, my first thoughts were Street Trash and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. I don't think either would fly, but both would be awesome choices.

All my collections are in storage in the Midwest, but it'll be cool to see whatever you all bring. I'll likely only be staying for the first show though (I have other tentative plans for that night)...but I will definitely make it for the first one. Thanks!

Erg...I wrote too soon. I actually won't be able to make this. I've found out that may plans for later that night will cut into the first movie time. :0( BUT...I will meet some of you for the NOTLD Riff Trax shindig earlier that week! I'm booked for that with ticket in hand.

Good to meet you, Kedar and thanks for putting this group together. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to attend but will let you know in advance if it isn't looking good. Looking forward to meeting everyone, as all of my friends are out of state and am getting settled to TX. I'm always looking to discover new non-mainstream films--some of my favorite Halloween-themed ones (some which you may have already seen) are: The Gingerdead Man movies (1-3), The Human Centipede movies (the 3rd and last is set to be released next year though), and one of my classic favorites, The Toxic Avenger (original). Hope to see you guys later on.

    October 1, 2013

    • Kedar H.

Cool, look forward to meeting you as well. Meetup is a great way to meet new people if you're new to ATX, so you're on the right site for sure. Couple meetups that I can personally vouch for as good are Austin Geeks and Gamers and Austin Single Gamers. Toxic Avenger is a great movie, I agree. Human Centipede was too disgusting for me to sit through personally, and Gingerdead Man I haven't seen but sounds great. If you have any movies to share you can bring them, and we'll vote for the top two out of all the movies everyone brings. I'm probably going to vote for the ones that look the most low-budget, ridiculous and over-the-top.

  • Kedar H.

    I'll get my hands on some direct-to-video 80's trash-horror.

    September 30, 2013

  • Kedar H.

hey Lacy, where were you at the last one?

    September 30, 2013

    • Lacy M.

Nope. One of my clients ended up getting out of jail on Friday, so I was dealing with that all weekend. Sounds like everyone had fun, though.

      September 30, 2013

    • Kedar H.

Damn that sucks. I think you would've enjoyed it -- Alien Warrior and Warriors of the Wasteland. Yeah hope you can make it out to this one!

I will bring Slaughter High. It has British actors playing Americans. Pretty fun movie

    2 · September 29, 2013

I just looked it up, that looks awesome.

      September 30, 2013

I don't have a ton of horror, Grant is way more knowledgeable in that department (he should just officially join this group). I've got Fright Night, Basket Case, Brain Damage and my broken copy of Gate II. Also, Return of the Living Dead on DVD. I don't really consider any of these "bad" movies though they are all really funny and cheesy. I'm up for watching some of those cult movies...

So.... no Troma is what you're saying. Or Zombie Strippers...
