Double-Feature Movie Social

We finally put together a short, eclectic list of some really so-bad-it's-good movies. No matter what you pick on Saturday, we're confident you'll be in for a fun time. And now, here is our selection.

Hard Ticket to Hawaii (1987)

Two drug enforcement agents are killed on a private Hawaiian island. Donna and Taryn, two operatives for The Agency, accidentally intercept a delivery of diamonds intended for drug lord Seth Romero, who takes exception and tries to get them back. Soon other Agency operatives get involved, and a full-scale fight to the finish ensues, complicated here and there by an escaped snake made deadly by Toxic Waste!

Uninvited (1988)

A mutated killer cat finds its way on-board a yacht.

Invisible Child (1999)

A woman with two children believes she has three and her husband and oldest daughter play along with her to keep her balanced (or as close to balanced that a woman with an invisible child can be). However, when the family hires a new nanny, it is all just too much for her and she starts to blab.

I Am Here Now (2009)

Disappointed by its creation, the almighty being that created Man arrives on Earth in a human form and interacts with various troubled, wicked and sinful people on his journey to Vegas.

Thanks everyone for contributing, we look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Thanks for coming out, all. What were your favorite moments in these movies?

Here's a really good 10 minute version of Hard Ticket https://www.youtube.co... basically just removes the 1 hour 20mins of gratuitous topless girls

    • Sam

Brad, you just contradicted yourself. A "good" version of the movie, but they've taken out the best parts?

      1 · July 28, 2014

  • Thomas

    Great event. Great crowd.

    1 · July 28, 2014

  • Thomas

Best part was the first half of Hard Ticket which I missed since I was late and didn't see it. But when that snake came out of the toilette? The heck was that all about? And why is Uninvited called Uninvited since every single soul on the boat was in fact invited?

    3 · July 27, 2014

    • Kedar H.

I think if you call your friends over to watch that movie with you, they'll uninvite themselves.

    Still thawing out...

    Hard Ticket to Hollywood:
    1. One would think that those intuitive and ever-resourceful bunnies would've problem-solved by using their implants as floatation devices as the boat sank.
    (Opps, got my movies confused!)

    B. What a feminist statement ! Women can have successful careers after aging out of Playboy !!!

    Uninvited:
The cats' grooming plummeted every time she let her "inner kitten" out to play. This is completely unrealistic for feline hygienic behavior.

    2. You have to give a nod (and a twist) to that infectious music they danced to. If there's a rock-n-roll heaven...

Sorry I can't make it this time, feeling under the weather. Fingers crossed for Hard Ticket!

    3 · July 26, 2014

    • Dylan

Awesome indeed! I'm watching it now at home in tribute.

      3 · July 26, 2014

That theme song stuck in my head. I should've encouraged everyone to sing along.

Sorry can't make it after all...maybe next time

We are really pulling for Hard Ticket to Hawaii and The Uninvited!

    5 · July 24, 2014

    • Maureen M.

Yes, those are the picks we're pulling for!

      2 · July 25, 2014

    • Leah

For sure, Kedar! We got in some new board games!!!

      1 · July 25, 2014

  • Thomas

    Yeah, how about some classics.
Classics defined as da hell were they thinking!?
*Cough -Vanilla Ice' Cool as Ice- Cough*

    3 · July 25, 2014

    • Kedar H.

Yeah that's one I brought in the past. We didn't watch it. Good to know someone else would enjoy it.

      July 25, 2014

    • Antony Max H.

Boy I love "Cool as Ice". I can't tell what is worse: The nonsensical plot, the terrible acting, the uninteresting paint-by-numbers characters, or the absolutely dreadful Bush I America outfits, wardrobe and music. It's like having the entire year 1990 vomit in your face for 90 minutes.

      3 · July 25, 2014

  • Thomas

I'm all for showing Breen but with the sound down and playing some Dark Side of the Moon in the background.

    1 · July 25, 2014

    • Antony Max H.

I wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly good album like that. :D

      1 · July 25, 2014

I am saying I am pulling for Hard Ticket to Hawaii and I am here now. I guess the only way to describe Neil Breen is get a Tommy Wiseau film, feed it to a pig covered in cancerous lesions, and whatever comes out it's behind would be a Neil Breen film.

    5 · July 25, 2014

  • Hilary

I take great umbrage to the rueful, dismissive attitude towards Neil Breen in this thread. It seems that some are jonesing to just 5-Hour energy it through his movie masterpieces. Remember, "you can't hurry love".

    3 · July 25, 2014

  • Kedar H.

I personally want to see Hard Ticket and I Am Here Now. Not because they're better, but because we're probably going to want to keep bringing them again and again and again, and I want to get it out of the way so we can usher in a wave of new stuff.

    3 · July 24, 2014

  • Sam

Are you all ready for Neil Breen again? Should I rent I Am Here...Now?

    3 · July 15, 2014

    • Maureen M.

I really don't think there's enough aspirin for me to handle Neil Brown. But I guess it's an acquired taste for some.

      1 · July 24, 2014

    • Brian S.

This. We need to see this. Now. :)

      1 · July 24, 2014

I'm trying to be unbiased about this fabulous choice of movies BUT Neil has really got me going!

    1 · July 24, 2014

    • Kedar H.

To me it's like a prostate exam. I feel really uncomfortable about it, but I just want to get it out of the way.

      2 · July 24, 2014

    • Sam

I've seen I Am Here twice and I just watched Uninvited. Both good choices, but Breen is in a league by himself. Just a whole other level of weirdness and badness.

      2 · July 24, 2014

  • Thomas

The Un-neutered cat flick sounds fun. err Uninvited.

Hard Ticket to Hawaii "directors cut special edition?" Apparently the standard edition didn't supply enough closure or something.
Well at least Ronn Moss has a Bacon number of 2.

    2 · July 24, 2014

    • Kedar H.

I don't know if my edition is the "directors cut". I imagine it would have even more tits and explosion.

      July 24, 2014

  • Maureen M.

Are the movies decided for Saturday?

    1 · July 24, 2014

    • Kedar H.

      YES! I'll send an update.

I'm going in to test my VCR sometime. I just ordered an AV2HDMI converter box off Amazon, wish me luck. Second, here's one thing I'm not happy about -- they had no idea who to serve, so they were just shouting orders all the time. Even Pizza Bistro knew how to serve without being disruptive. They need a better system.

    3 · July 11, 2014

    • Rebecca

Good thing you relocated... Pizza Bistro closed down. Or I guess they're going back to what they were before Pizza Bistro.

      1 · July 16, 2014

    • Kedar H.

Damn... that sucks. I liked that place.

      2 · July 16, 2014

  • Thomas

Breen? Oh, yeah! I have breen looking, err, been looking, everywhere for his flicks (became a fan a few years back)(Don't ask). But, in a recent communiqué with Breen he replied he pulled everything to focus on Fateful Findings. Go figure, I always want things that don't exist any longer (e.g. Breen flicks, slide-rules, pince-nez, and those 1970's oil rain lamps that look like its raining)....

You have I Am Here Now, right?

      July 15, 2014

    • Thomas

Who me? Nope, neither. Wish I had both I Am Here...Now, and Double Down. At least Scott Shaw flicks are readily available. I'd better get my favorite Guns of El Chupacabra before its pulled.

      July 15, 2014

  • Kedar H.

Even though I'm not 100% on whether or not the VCR will hook-up, please propose your VHS movies. Worse case scenario, I can download it off cinemageddon and we'll watch it off my PC. We avoided that before, but with this A/V problem, I think we can make that exception if necessary.

Pompeii would be my suggestion. It tries so hard to be Titanic, it hurts. It's directed blandly, the acting is pretty bad, but what really makes this movie worth it is Kiefer Sutherland. This might be one of the legitimately worst performances I've ever seen in a widely release film.

    1 · July 11, 2014

    • Sam

Thanks, Neal. Would you be bringing it to the Meetup?

      July 11, 2014

    • Kedar H.

Pompeii is a bad movie, but it may not make the final cut. The movies that take precedence are ones that people haven't heard of, haven't seen, and can't easily procure. Since we only meet once a month, we have to be quite selective. I'd look at the number of user ratings for the movie on IMDb -- I think around or below 5,000 would be a more likely candidate, the lesser the better. That's from looking at movies we've seen in the past, just to give you a better sense of things.
