Join us for an electrifying Nicole Lizée portrait programme featuring three compositions by the 2013 Jules Léger Prize winning Montreal composer. Channeling Lizée's eclectic mix of compositional inspirations from rave culture, post-punk, and 1960s psychedelia, this not-to-be-missed music experience incorporates her signature "notated" turntables integrated with performances by the Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble and Toronto new music champions, the Array Ensemble.
Surround projections will showcase the evening's crown jewel, Lizée’s Hitchcock Etudes, a reworking of the master of suspense's iconic movie moments, set to what will be the world premiere of Lizée's new arrangement of the work for string quartet, percussion and electronics. The performance will also feature Nicole Lizée’s Kronos Quartet commissioned string quartet, Death to Komische, and the Array Ensemble's second performance of their 2011 commission, Lizée's multi-instrumental ensemble work, Traumnovelle.
In conjunction with the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies, Lizée will be appearing at 2PM as a featured speaker for their Friday Chat Series, leading up to the evening’s performance.
