The mission of this group is to attract more customers to local businesses and consequently help improve the quality of life in and around Cleveland.

-Our founding premise is that strong local economies are prime drivers of successful neighborhoods. ( the best neighborhoods in the US have thriving local economies ) We want to see more local business here and believe Cleveland has the potential via it's natural resources, existing infrastructure, history and citizenry to be a more beautiful, walkable, sustainable, active , safe and enjoyable city. (and a place to be proud of!) Generating more (and better) local commerce is an important step towards this goal. We want to spread the message about the vast, multiplicity of benefits that come from choosing to spend your money locally, it's one of the most powerful means by which individuals can effect their communities.

-Citizen Advocates for Local Business in Cleveland is designed to operate on three simultaneous levels. first, we are a cash mob, our group will go into a local business and patronize it. This helps that local business financially in the present, and through spreading word of that business via our group's members to their family, friends and acquaintances will further help that business in the future. Secondly, while our group is at that local business, we will conduct a meeting in which we formulate ideas and implementation strategies designed to attract more customers to other local businesses in Cleveland. Thirdly, while at the business our group will brainstorm ideas as to how to improve the business we're holding our meeting in. The more people we have at a Meetup, the more potential exists to come up with creative and practical ideas to help that business (crowd sourcing = better results!)

-Our group is an emergent, participatory, social/economic action group that will evolve with the input of its members over time.

Reasons to support your local economy:

-build community via the relationships between owners, workers, patrons and the neighborhood. (Local businesses are more accountable to the community)

-return 2-3 times more money to the local economy/create new jobs

-donate 2 times more money to local charities/community investment

-raise property values

- help make your community a place worth caring about and honor the people and history of the neighborhood

-local business owners consider the impact to their neighborhood when making decisions, not just their bottom line

- More accessibility for everyone. This is especially important for elderly, vulnerable and young people and people without transportation. With ever increasing gasoline prices, walkable communities are becoming more necessary

- save time (and sometimes money) by shopping in your neighborhood. Plus, it gives you a reason to go for a nice walk

- reduce your environmental impact by eliminating those long drives to Crocker Park and Legacy Village

- attract new entrepreneurs and skilled workers by way of your patronage . Neighborhoods that preserve their unique businesses and distinctive character are more successful in recruiting, these are places people enjoy being in.
