Citizens for Medical Price Transparency (CMPT) is a grassroots educational organization that lobbies for full transparency in medical pricing and ease of access for full pricing information for the public.

Studies show a seven to ten-fold difference in medical pricing – often within the same city – medical price transparency could introduce needed competition and consumer choice into the health care market. Lack of price competition means that high medical prices eventually come out of the consumer's pocket. Employers pass on higher prices to employees (consumers) with higher contributions (and lesser coverage). Insurance companies pass on higher prices with higher premiums / co-pays. Consumers ultimately pay the higher prices -- and suffer the higher consequences, if they can't.

CMPT founding members believe that full disclosure of the cost of medical procedures and services BEFORE delivery can have immediate and long-term benefits, including reducing the growing burden of healthcare costs to employers, individuals, and third party payers -- and ultimately to consumers.

The purpose of the CMPT MeetUp is to create a gathering place for concerned Coloradans to discuss the critical need for transparency, form policy recommendations for Colorado legislators, review or generate transparency legislation, monitor pricing under Obamacare and organize strategies necessary to achieve meaningful price transparency.
