Volunteer Day and Workshop: Starting Your Own Seeds

Volunteer with us 10am-2pm
Workshop 2pm-3:30pm

Start your day by volunteering with us at the Youth Farm! Get your hands dirty and learn about farming through a variety of tasks working side by side trained farmers.

In this hands-on workshop at the beautiful 1-acre Youth farm, learn how to start your own vegetables or flowers at home using basic supplies. Assistant Manager Liz will walk you through the basics of seed propagation and what's required for healthy seedlings: soil mediums, planting depth, watering, and environment/protection. Rain or shine - we have a giant hoophouse ideal for sowing seeds in spring!

No need to volunteer to attend the workshop - just show up at 2pm if you like!

Hey all! We're excited to have you out tomorrow for some farm work and our workshop from 2-3:30pm. The seed starting workshop will be focused on sexual propagation, or starting seeds from a package! Basics of filling trays, potting mixes, sowing techniques and watering and caring for your seedlings. Looking forward to having you out tomorrow!

Is this planting seeds from a package or harvesting seeds from the plant it self?

Thanks so much! This sounds really fun. But I may be going to a farm festival at Snug Harbor Botanical Garden, on Staten Island.
