Do you grow food now or do you want to start growing food?

I want to start growing food. I like being active and outdoors more than anything else and I have seen the cost of food rise especially when it comes to healthier better tasting food. I'm tired of not having access to good food and so I thought it would be a great idea to learn to grow it for myself my family and my community.

What neighborhood in NYC do you farm or want to farm?

I live out on Long island and have volunteered at the Nassau County Trust farm out here in Malverne, but I go to school in Queens and volunteer/work in the city of NY so I am interested in doing work for/with urban farms out there. There is not a specific burrough I prefer.

Where do you grow food or want to grow food (i.e. community garden, back or front yard, window sill, rooftop farm, etc)?

I would like to work in community gardens but I also would like to start my own backyard garden.

What is the name of your project or farm (if relevant)?

Please describe your project or farm (if relevant).

My personal project is is to start a basic vegetable garden in my backyard. I think it would help my mom with the cost of our food vegetables especially and I would be able to have more of the vegetables I like to eat as opposed to whats cheap enough to buy in the store.

I am a student at St Johns University. I work with an non-profit organization serving LGBTQ youth of colour called Fierce. I'm interested in examining the intersections between access to healthy food, race, gender and socioeconomic status of people.
