Mid-week drink, share and think

This workshop will cover Boat electronics from first principles, including the following:

  • Basics of current, voltage, resistance
  • Battery types and maintenance
  • Multi-meters and fault tracing
  • Alternators, voltage regulators and charging
  • Marine corrosion problems
  • Electrolysis and sacrificial anodes

We look forward to seeing you all there.

We have had an interesting summer of both heavy and light weather. Before we dig out our thermals for the winter we are organising a fortnightly mid-week meet-up to share our experiences, prepare for winter racing and plan for next year.

Each meeting will cover an interesting and challenging topic and refresh a few subjects on which we are all a little rusty. They will be an opportunity to jointly talk through some hot topics, so please bring along your knowledge and experiences.

Topics will include:
How to make the best of challenging and changeable weather brought on by global warming
- How global warming seems to be affecting our weather

- How air pressure, tides, winds and precipitation are impacting inshore and offshore sailing

- Doing your own met observations and second-guessing the official forecasts

- How best to plan your sailing around the less predictable conditions

Rope - from basic knot practice to practical maintenance
- Refresher on key knots for different ropes and useres

- How to look after ropes and maximise their life

Victualing ideas

- Good food and drink without the junk

- Heavy weather, food allergies, sea sickness and other challenges

Do RSVP if you are interested in coming along as it will help us to plan logistics and handouts. If you know anyone else who may be interested, please do forward on the information or bring them along.

We are going to use the first floor function room at the Bishops Finger and so will ask for £5 to cover the room hire.

Dates for your diary:

Thursdays 18th October, 1st, 15th and 29th November

Again the presentation was excellent and very informative. With yachts becoming increasingly dependent upon electonics the subject of undertanding electrical systems and batteries was appropriately relevant. I appreciated being able to ask questions about electrics on my own yacht.
