Let's help Springfield area's homeless, runaways and street youth.

The Rare Breed is an youth Outreach Center sponsored by The Kitchen, Inc. It is for local youth ages 13-19 to provide for needs and services of "at risk of" or homeless, runaways and street youth.

Links are provided below with information about the Outreach Center and a Wish List with some of their needs. It ranges from bottled water to blankets. Winter is coming soon and with our large group we could help with new or clean, nice used items or cash. For those wishing to participate we will collect at a couple future Friday night dinners to be announced. Later we may have a volunteer opportunity to help at the Center.

Thank you all and I hope we can make a little difference in the lives of young people whom are less fortunate than ourselves.

Bianca, your challenge was met and then some, thanks to individual donations of $10 or more from: Debbie Wolfe, Cheryl Ogborn and her friend Sheila, Sherry and the $10 pledge from Sharon Evans.:) The hat was passed around the table to collect even more for a total of $60! You guys are great! Cold weather items are a huge need for those teens surviving on the streets. Hot hands, gloves, coats, sleeping bags, blankets, jeans, thermal underwear, hats and tarps. Clothing and hygeine needs are great. See the website for more suggestions. We will collect again next Friday night!
Thanks so much to all of you!

I am not sure that I will make it Friday night, but would like to make the following challenge: I will match (up to $10) the first five donations of $10 or more. This is an awesome cause. Who in our group can even imagine being homeless as a teenager? Who can imagine not knowing how they would get food or clothing during their childhood? We take so very much for granted - let's show these young people that we care. If five people meet my challenge, we will have at least $100 in cash. Judy and I have talked about coupon/sale shopping with the cash so that we can get more than $100 worth of food/toiletries/supplies for the kids. Or, if there is enough interest, we could prepare a meal to be served at the Rare Breed facility. Thanks to everyone who will help out with this cause!

That is wonderful Bianca and I have been keeping some of the toiletries etc, for them, when I coupon shop.

Bianca, your challenge has been met! Thanks to Debbie Wolfe, Cheryl Ogborn, her friend Sheila, Sherry Ogborn and the $10 pledge from Sharon Evans. Tonight we passed the hat and collected a total of $60! At our next meeting we will discusss the the best use for the money collected. At Maria's next Friday we will collect any items brought in and cash donations. Rhonda and I were there yesterday and she witnessed what a good progam they have for homeless and at risk teens. A worker there said the items most needed would be cold wet weather needs with winter coming soon! Tarps, coats, socks, sleeping bags, hot hands, blankets, razors, bottled water, feminine hygiene products, baby wipes and diapers. The entire list is on the web site provided. Any needs we have, they do too, plus surviving the cold winter weather!

I would like to donate $10 also, but know when to or how to get it to some one. Debbie might be able to meet at DiGiacino's restaurant where I work and I could give it to her at her convenience. Cheryl
