I am recently retired from Vanderbilt University and a new Chicagoan. Have been reading scifi since I was a kid and look forward to meeting some fellow readers.
Always liked Asimov and Philip K Dick. Harlan Ellison, Frerick Pohl. Arthur Clark. Ursula Le Guin.
Love the new venue; reasonable food, great ambience. Love it that everyone reads the books and talks about the books. And love the depth of knowledge of SciFi the group has. I read this stuff a lot as a kid, but haven't read much new scifi for the last 25 or more years. Am happy getting back into it and getting great ideas for reading from the group. Already checked Earth Abides from the library tonight -- as a result of a rec from someone in the group.
Janet - please forgive the delay in responding to your note. We have been in turmoil here - Ben's 88-year-old father placed on hospice care 3 weeks ago. We've been in Dallas. Ben isn't feeling very social right now but I would to have coffee or lunch with you. I'll try to figure out how to send you a message with my email. This doesn't look very private. Take care. Hope to hear from you and, again, so sorry it took this long to get back to you.
Hi Janet - I just saw your email from post-Resurrection cemetery and pre-graffiti. Unfortunately, I had to cancel out of the Graffiti shoot -- originally, because my teenage son was coming home and there was a question of supervision but ultimately, it was my knee that kept me from going. Anyway, I hope to be out and about again soon! See you around, Julia
I really enjoyed meeting you tonight!
Welcome to Chicago, Janet! This meetup is a great group to get started with - glad you found it. I will hope to see you at another event. Julia
Welcome! Similar to the book club you have enjoyed in Nashville, we also meet once a month and we also vote in our books annually. However, we are having a quiet summer this year. Check out our upcoming books and our list of books read-to-date. You will love Chicago.
