How they reflected the values of their times -- or didn't. I enjoy seeing the dress, their views of the world.
For films, it's hard to choose between the 1930's and the 1940's.
How about Remember the Night, with Barbara Stanwick as a "girl crook" and Fred McMurray as a DA. Its varying depictions of small town life were great. I also chose it because it's not as well known as other "favorite movies."
I love b&w movies, even those with scenes with tints of color. TCM is a great resource but I love seeing older films in theaters. As a child I told my mother that history was in black and white! Could we share viewings of dvd's too??
