Funny Face (1957) at Yonge and Dundas Cineplex Odeon

Funny Face (1957), is a Technicolor musical that stars Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire, and Kay Thompson. Astaire plays a fashion photographer who is sent on a mission by his boss (Thompson) to find a "new face". They decide on using a Greenwich Village bookstore for a photo session and the bookstore clerk just happens to be Audrey Hepburn. Astaire discovers that Hepburn is the model they are looking for, but she has no interest in becoming a model - until she finds out that a trip to Paris is part of the deal.

In 1927, Fred Astaire was in the Broadway production of Funny Face and four songs from that production were used thirty years later in this movie. Unlike her role in My Fair Lady, Audrey Hepburn actually does her own singing here.

The film was nomination for four Oscars (Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, and Original Screenplay) and was also given a Special Citation for photographic innovations by the National Board of Review.

We will meet at 12:15pm on the 4th floor in the area between the theatre entrance and Jack Astor's. On the wall at the meeting place there is currently a big AMC logo, but this might be gone as the theatre is now operated by Cineplex (but they don't seem to be in a hurry to change the signage). You can spot the organizer (Mark) by looking for someone with black hair, white jeans and a blue and white messenger bag. At 12:25pm we will head to the theatre and attempt to get a group of seats together. The movie starts at 12:45pm. Make sure to get your ticket on the main floor before heading up to the 4th floor to meet us - the ticket booth is at street level behind the escalators. As there might be a line for getting tickets you may want to take advantage of getting your tickets ahead of time - visit Cineplex.com to buy your tickets online or visit the Yonge & Dundas Cineplex anytime before March 10th to buy your ticket. Tickets for this movie are just $6.

Please note: this meetup is the first of two movie meetups (at two different theatres) we have scheduled for March 10th. As there is only 45 minutes between these two meetups, there will not be a get together immediately after this movie. We do encourage you to join us to see Vertigo at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. We will have a get together at Marché immediately after Vertigo.

Thanks to everyone that came out for our first movie. Sorry that I was unable to arrange for a get-together after the first movie, but it was nice to meet everybody.

Special thanks to Kristina for joining me for both movies today and the brisk hike between the two theatres.

The ticket price is at the end of the second last paragraph. The Yonge and Dundas Cineplex shows quite a few non-current movies and the ticket price is usually just $6 (no discounts for kids, students, or seniors).
