Celtic Harp Concert (Sunday, 26 Feb @ 3pm)

Castlebay Celtic Harp Concert

Sunday, February 26, 2012

3:00 pm at the Broadway United Methodist Church

406 E. Amelia St, Orlando, FL 32803

This concert features traditional Celtic music by Castlebay, Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee. Their program is a blend of storytelling, ballads, and music played on Celtic harp, guitar, fiddle, Irish flute and tin whistle. In addition to their regular kit, Julia and Fred own and have used bodhran, bass drum, five-string viola, cello, dijeridu, E-flat tuba, classical guitars, recorders, orchestra flute, native flutes, various drums, chimes, bells, shakers, etc.

Julia Lane plays the Celtic harp, also known as the folk harp or lever harp. This type of harp, with a triangular frame, probably originated in southeastern Scotland about 1400 years ago. There are carvings of harps on some of the Pictish stones.

Fred Gosbee's primary instrument is the 12-string guitar and plays a variety of other stringed instruments and whistles and flutes.

This concert was a pleasure. There is something very powerful about traditional music presented simply and purely. The storytelling and music were nicely balanced.

This was an amazing concert. The skills of Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee was a unbelievable, be it their talents with the instruments, their vocals, or the artisanship of the instruments. Fred’s story telling, and Julia’s vocals miraculously transport you to the places and times of the old world. I fell very gifted to have been able to attend their performance.
Thank You Julia and Fred for sharing your gifts with us.
