Castlebay Celtic Harp Concert

This concert features traditional Celtic music by Castlebay, Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee. Their program is a blend of storytelling, ballads, and music played on Celtic harp, guitar, fiddle, Irish flute and tin whistle. In addition to their regular kit, Julia and Fred own and have used bodhran, bass drum, five-string viola, cello, dijeridu, E-flat tuba, classical guitars, recorders, orchestra flute, native flutes, various drums, chimes, bells, shakers, etc.
Julia Lane plays the Celtic harp, also known as the folk harp or lever harp. This type of harp, with a triangular frame, probably originated in southeastern Scotland about 1400 years ago. There are carvings of harps on some of the Pictish stones.
Fred Gosbee's primary instrument is the 12-string guitar and plays a variety of other stringed instruments and whistles and flutes.
