Morrison Artists Series: Trio con Brio Copenhagen - FREE!:)

Hi Folks,

My friend and also a dear musician herself has been raving about this group, and their performance is superb I heard. Well, SFSU is hosting them via their prestigious Morrison Artists Series for FREE. Why don't we go and check them out? Ok, here's the detail:

For Trio con Brio Copenhagen, family ties, cultural blending and musical connections converge to color, shape and energize its concerts worldwide. It won the 2002 Munich-ARD Competition and 2005 Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award. American Record Guide writes: "Melodies sing with an aching sweetness, or seduce with wild eroticism, or haunt with impenetrable mystery." Gramophone writes: "Airtight ensemble...a superb, greatly gifted chamber group."

SF State’s Morrison Chamber Music Center is home to the Morrison Artists Series, the longest running chamber music concert series in San Francisco, featuring superb, admission-free performances by some of the world’s most acclaimed ensembles since 1955. The San Francisco Chronicle writes: “indispensable.” The center also provides educational opportunities to students and the community including lectures, master classes, artist residencies, mentoring and school outreach. The Morrison Chamber Music Center is funded, in part, by a generous gift from the May Treat Morrison Trust. Professor Richard Festinger serves as artistic director of the Morrison Artists Series.

Fantastic! Though I'm biased. I'm a groopie of Trio con Brio, or they seem to perform in places I happen to be. The Hayden was perfect! Great sound, measured and whimsy. I was a bit disappointed by the Ravel, however. It was a bit restricted, and should have had more gusto and reverie. I've heard them playing it better before. The two modern pieces were very pleasant, and well executed. Thank y'all for making this meetup such a vibrant time-space.

Oh, and sorry I had to rush after the performance. I'm still adjusting to my role as a mommy of a vivacious puppy. It was the first time she spent in the crate by herself for 4-5 hours straight.

It was such a wonderful and well-balanced program. Sometimes modern pieces are something to think about in term of length, but for this concert, it was "just" right dosage!:) Thanks for joining!

Trio con Brio displayed lotsa "brio!"

    March 14, 2013

    • Brit

      March 15, 2013

  • erika

If you are running late that's ok. Just get to the cafe by 6:30 at the latest as the cafe closes @ 7. See you soon!:)

  • Valerie

With unpredictable Bay bridge traffic, I'll skip dinner, but I'm planning to go early (before 7 PM) to hear the lecture. I also have a friend coming. I usually sit house left near the front. Let me know if you'd like me to try to save seats.

    March 14, 2013

    • erika

Hi Valerie, That will be super if you can save us 7 spots near your seat. Thanks!:)

      March 14, 2013

    • erika

Valerie, Can you get 9 seats instead? Thanks!:)

      March 14, 2013

  • erika

OK, I have an update about tix info. NO tix required and won't be like Julliard concert. Just come and meet us by 7:30. That should give us plenty of time.
    See you all tomorrow eve!:)

    March 14, 2013

  • ayala k.

Thanks, Erika. For the SFSU Julliard String Quartet's performance of 2pm people started lining 9am. While Trio con Brio ain't the Julliard (though the quartet they played so, so terribly aside from the lead violinist...), it's a Friday nite.

    March 13, 2013

  • erika

We might all be able to carpool from dinner location.

    March 13, 2013

    • David G.

I will have my car (I can take three people, four if we squish).

      March 13, 2013

  • ayala k.

After the Julliard Quartet experience I suggest we get our tix early so that we have seats.

    March 13, 2013

    • erika

I don't think box office opens until shortly before preconcert lecture @ 7. Let me find out.

      March 13, 2013

  • Claire

Plan to get to Nordstrom Cafe around 6:15 PM.

    March 13, 2013

  • erika

Yup, this event is in lieu of Mahler symphony concert due to shortage of tix availability. Please be content lol!:)

    March 12, 2013

    • Brit

Would like to join you this Friday for the concert. I have credit card in hand but find no way to connect with your account at PayPal to pay the 3 dollar fee.

      March 12, 2013

    • erika

No problem Brit!:) My paypal acct is [masked]. I assume you do have paypal acct? Otherwise, you need to open up acct w/ paypal. Let me know how it goes. I will up you on meetup for now.

      March 12, 2013

  • erika

It is FREE as in no need to purchase tix for the concert itself, BUT there's still event fee of $3 at the time of RSVP. Hope this minimize folks who goes "It's free, but why $3 to pay?"

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
