Lots of great comments. As usual I go away with more questions than answers. I could spend more time talking about blindness/sight/metaphoric sight/insight/perspective. I think there are still many sight references yet to discuss--but you all got me thinking more about it!

It was a great meeting. Interesting comments -- I love Kelly's enthusiasm and Susan's insight in connecting symbols, especially optics-optimist and the sight theme running through the book. Mike always has good contributions. David can be counted on to bring in a bit of theory (always welcome). I felt Jeanne had things to say as did others but got shut out in the rapid rush of the conversation. Victoria's house was awesome and a great venue for our group. Plus she raised many good points. Sorry if Peter and I occupied too much talk time. I enjoyed the difference of opinion. Chris had great questions once we finally paused to hear them.

I liked the fireworks and thanks to David and LIz and Evelyn for demystifying (sort of ) deconstructionism and post structuralism. I must admit, I am just not a fan of literary criticism

In grad school, I was voted "Least Theoretical." Luckily, I was in the writing program so that was a good thing.

Another great discussion. Victoria was a great host and I enjoyed the lively discussion. I also thought Chris did a nice job of reining the group in a little to keep things focused toward the end.

    Hi All,
Looking forward to hosting our discussion of "The Optimist's Daughter" next Tuesday evening!
The map is posted, but want to add a comment re parking: my (VERY short) driveway can take 2 cars, but my street (Ruskin Dr.) is oh-so-narrow, so best to park on the adjacent main street, E. Winmore Drive.
Also, if you can, bring a snack or a drink of choice. I'll have some wine, soft drinks, and a few munchies. :)
    Thanks!
    Victoria

Thanks, Lisa. I prefer not to chalk it up to my being completely befuddled by life so much as that I'm a man ahead of my time. Yeah. Let's go with that. OK?

Since I'm hosting the discussion, I'm very relieved it's not tomorrow night as I haven't finished the book nor vacuumed. :) If you can make it next week, John, please come!
