Clearwater Writers Meet-Up

  • July 15, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We meet at my home every other Tuesday, from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. (near Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater.) I provide chips and drinks. If you want to bring a finger-food snack to share, that would be great, but not necessary.

The first portion of our meeting is devoted to talking about topics of interest to writers of all genres, such as: • What’s new in the publishing industry, • What hot websites/blogs have been discovered, • Discussion/Information-sharing pertaining to articles we have read

During the second portion of our meeting, individuals are each given the opportunity to read from their work and receive verbal comments/critiques from the rest of the group. Interested members can also supply printed copies of their work to other members, who will then provide a more detailed, written critique of the work sample. Hope you can join us!

BonSue...I thought I could make Tuesday, but don't think I'll be able to make it after all. I'm getting ready for a far-too-long work trip coming up this week and I've found I have too much to do before leaving. I hope you all have a good time and eat a few cookies for me. :)

Thanks for letting me know, April. I'll change your RSVP. Have safe travels and try to work some writing into your trip. Hope to see you in a few weeks!

No worries, Bon Sue. But if you know anyone else out your way, i.e. on the 'west coast', feel free to let them know about it. ;-)

Russil - I hate to miss this, but it's hard for me to get out on Saturday nights (hubby time.) You're an excellent performer and I wish you great success!

Excellent meet-up, but even though several members stayed late, not everyone got to share their work. Therefore, I am putting a few 'new guidelines' in place to make more time for writers to read from their current WIPs. I'll be posting these in the next few days. If you have time-saving suggestions that don't alter the purpose of this meet-up too much, please e-mail them to me. Thanks everyone!

I am so excited to be among a talented, creative pool of writers. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. What a fruitful evening! I had to apply what I had learned. So, at midnight, with a cup of peppermint tea, I started the joyful process of revising and revising and..........zzzzz. Until the next morning, armed with a cup of expresso, the process began again.

I really enjoyed the meeting. It was a pleasure to hear the writings progress from last time. I have a long way to go, but it is helpful to hear others' work and get constructive criticism. I love the group and the readings! So many talented writers!

For the next week, I'm going to have only limited access to the Internet, so might have trouble monitoring the RSVP list for the 7/15 meet-up. Please keep in mind that only the first 18 writers to RSVP can attend. Therefore, if you plan to attend but haven't yet submitted your RSVP, please do so ASAP. In the event I am unable to access the controls on our site to cut-off RSVPs at 18 attendees, that doesn't mean that more than 18 can attend! If you have submitted an RSVP and your plans change, please be courteous and change your RSVP to 'no' ASAP so that others can attend in your place. The day before the meet-up, I will still send out an e-mail with driving directions to those who have submitted a 'yes' RSVP for 7/15/14. Thanks for helping make this a great meet-up!

Bon-Sue, I registered as soon as I received your email this morning. I'm new to the meetup board, so I didn't know how to sign up before the notice, and 18 other people did. I am so looking forward to coming. I hope I can be squeezed in. I have my fingers crossed.

This is a fantastic group - it has excellent writer's, you receive well thought out critiques, and the environment is very comfortable yet challenging at the same time. I am happy to be a part of it.
