Formal education will make you a living, but self-education will make you a fortune. Each month we select a personal development or wealth-building book to read. Everyone reads on their own. Then the last Friday of the month, we'll get together for an hour or so to discuss the book, reflect on personal experiences, and implement action steps to put our new knowledge to use.
The April book is "The Happiness Advantage" by Shawn Achor. One of my mentors, who has a net worth of almost $100 million, suggested this book to me. It suggests conventional wisdom (working hard will lead to success which will lead to happiness) is backwards. Happiness fuels success, not the other way around. When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive at work. Achor explains how we can reprogram our brains to become more positive in order to gain a competitive edge at work. Here's a 12-minute TEDx Talk by the author... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXy__kBVq1M.
You can find this book online (check Amazon).
"Don’t worry about the cost of books. It isn’t what the book costs. It’s what it will cost you if you don’t read it." - Jim Rohn
