finally able to come again, and brining one of my students who needs to learn a LOT about setting up a hadoop cluster for a research project! Hoping to find some people who can give some pointers on HDFS configuration.

others can chime in, but by virtue of the storageID and namespaceID that the datanodes get when they register with the namenode, they are recognizable even when the DN IP address or host name changes (http://www.aosabook.o...) ... hope that helps!

      November 5, 2013

    • Greg B.

the above is assuming the DN data disk and directories persist

Thanks to the organizers, sponsors and speaker. I was interested in the various real-time integrations (storm, etc). Any chance the slides will be available?

Good presentation Joe! Nice to confirm the YARN container lifecycle with MR. The split calculations that exist in MR1 (e.g., # of files/HDFS blocks, # of HBase regions) are still critical for MR2, but they are done by the Application Master instead of the client. And if your MR job needs 100 mappers and 10 reducers, that's 110 containers.

The official word from Progressive is "no" on beer but I encourage anybody who wants to do something afterwards to do so!

I'm diabetic. Would it be too much to ask if you guys could see if the pizza place could provide some salad for people like us? Possibly some Diet Mountain Dew for the benefit of people who never developed a taste for Diet Coke?

Another great topic! Unfortunately, I'm scheduled to be out of town co-teaching a Hadoop admin course Nov 4-6. It's tough for us road warriers to catch up with the group!
