2/14/14 UPDATE: Please come early since the lower entrance is closed due to snow. Please read and share with others details here.

Description from: W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI):

• Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can use the Web. More specifically, Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web, and that they can contribute to the Web. Web accessibility also benefits others, including older people with changing abilities due to aging. Web accessibility encompasses all disabilities that affect access to the Web, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities. The document "How People with Disabilities Use the Web" describes how different disabilities affect Web use and includes scenarios of people with disabilities using the Web.

Tom Babinszki (@TBabinszki), who is an Accessibility Advisor at IBM, will be presenting at our February 15, 2014, meeting. He was born in Hungary, where he has actively participated in disability advocacy since his teenage years.

After moving to the United States, he worked with government agencies and corporations to help them make web and software accessible to people with disabilities. He trained the first visually impaired accessibility consultants in South-East Asia.

Besides accessibility work, Tom has built a center for entrepreneurship at the Hadley School for the Blind (@TheHadleySchool) to help visually impaired business owners realize their dreams.

Please plan on coming a little early to tomorrow's (Saturday, February 15th) meeting, since our normal entrance on the lower level is closed due to snow. I recommend entering on the main floor at the ends of the Notre Dame College Administration Building, and then use the elevator or stairs to the lower floor -- room 30. I think this is an important topic, so please invite others attend.

Something that's overlooked far too often and definitely a hole in my skill set. Looking forward to the meeting!
