Subject: [webdesign-396] Skype and Distance participation
Since several people cannot make it to some of our meetings, I got to thinking we could hook them up with Skype. http://www.skype.com/
I just got on it this past week thanks to the folks at Joomla! and I am hooked. You can do lots of neat things with it. I don't know if it has video chat, but it definitely has audio conferencing with up to 9 persons. If several of us that have laptops had Skype, we could all hook up a few folks in a conference. This way they could still participate. Skype also has text so one of us could pay attention to when a distant participant wants to raise her hand so to speak.
There are a lot of possibilities with this. All 9 on one computer..forming their own conversation with each other. Or a couple on two or three different computers. As you know we tend to break up into small groups of three or four. In this case each group of three or four could become a group of four or five, with a couple folks being on skype.
Also skype is available on Gnu/Linux, Mac and Windows. So no one would be excluded.
If you already have skype, and you want, go ahead and post your skype nick to your profile. Mine is Aoirthoir.
This would also be great for mini-skype meetups inbetween our main meetups.
Thanks kindly yall and best regards,
Joseph James Frantz
