Aoirthoir, the latest reply to the groups drupal vs joomla question brought up a question for me: in your mysql classes, will you be getting into mysql 5s stored procedures? I have little use for an intro-to-mysql class, which is why I have kept silent and have not attended, but I have no experience with stored procedures and their availability now has caught my attention. I’ll probably start experimenting with them myself, but if you’ll be covering this (with experience), I may be interested.

 

Since I’m talking… of the “we’ll carry people up/down the stairs”… it’s nice that people are willing to help, but be very cautious. One word: ‘liability’. If anyone gets hurt, good intentions or not, the insurance companies will come after peoples heads. Everyone involved: the helpers, the lease holder, the property owner, etc…  Accessibility is true or false. Sorry to be a downer on that one, but red flags started flying when I read of that.

          Thanks for starting the meetings again.  Please don't have the meetings on the 2nd Saturday (GCPCUG.org meeting), and definitely not on the 3rd Saturday.  On the third Saturday is my Web Development SIG (www.WebSigCleveland.org ) meeting which does have attendees that also attend the MySQL classes.  You can see a list of tech events at Google calendar maintained at: http://clevelandtechevents.com/

For this meetup I try to be as inclusive as I can. I understand that circumstances (my income) might impair that desire to some degree. Still, if it is within my reach, even if it takes a bit of work, I want to meet the needs of others. So along those lines I consider the following:

3. Some folks need visual tools. Perhaps larger monitors, or speaking software. If I have the means to accommodate, I will. Right now we've not run into this, but I expect some time I will.

 

These are just some examples of needs that many of us don't think about because we take our ease of access for granted. Myself, so much so that it didn't dawn on me about the steps until a short time ago. 

 

Of course each of us has other needs besides these. Since I like to help, if I can, I will. 

 

Speaking of which is Saturday acceptable for people for now?

not really trying to be funny but what do you mean by "needs".

Sometimes i am quite daft...does that qualify as a "need".

I think your offer if great, as it is a much more intense time constraint on you.

I will adapt to wherever and when ever you decide just let me know the details.

I will adjust to what others prefer first.

Kevin,

 

There is no elevator but I think I have a solution for those that arent. If I am teaching say about 4 people or fewer, then I can do that easily enough at Beyond PC. Teaching the large group that we had here is really difficult though, and other locations were as well. So I am thinking that I could set up two classes. One during the week for a handful of people and another at the new location for larger numbers. I kow that means that those with needs would not be in person as a part of the large groups, but it would also give them the advantage of more focused attention, so I hope the trade off would be worth it.

 

What do you think?
